If you went to the states and get it... I wonder how much the duty/taxes would be when you bring it back.

Does NAFTA count? I don't think they will tax him that much.

honda761: Best Buy and Future Shop are the same franchise. This is definitely a business strategy.

Not sure about Duty since it is not built in the USA. Regardless, you would be up for HST based upon $2k USD.

Problem lies in the warranty and if the thing breaks down will Panasonic Canada repair it without charge??

This used to be the same problem with buying cars in the USA and bringing them in to Canada. Dealerships wouldn't touch warranty issues unless the manufacturer gave them the green light.

Done this before. Paid Hst on the canadian conversion value. You must take it back to the states for any warranty work, which is easy...you have to let the canadian border know that you are taking it back for warranty work....they give you a piece of paper that allows you to bring it back into canada without any hassle.

Buy it in the USA after Christmas....buy a floor model if you can and haggle down the price further. With regards to warranty are you kidding....cripes the first TV I owned was 1 my father gave me when I moved out of the house a 19" Sanyo that was purchased in 1989...I got it in 1992...had it until 2006 and it still worked fine and had a good picture....sold it to a gal I worked with and she was super happy with it.

Buy that big ass super high tech screen in the USA and pay the duty at the border and you will save some serious cash.

To be honest I think you found a major exception to the rule. I have searched a lot for electronics (TV, computers, gaming etc) and found over the lat 3-4 years the price difference on 99% of items is minor at best between US and Canada. Yes, the Black Friday stuff is exceptional.

Recently searched the US for XBox with the Kinect. The package was $299 in each country. Extra controllers were cheaper in the US but only worth it if you are there already. Did the same for our HP laptop and am searching for a 42-46 LCD or Plasma and those prices are virtually the same too (LG, Panasonic, Vizio). Not enough to warrant the hassle.

Now clothes, food, alcohol is another story - incredibly cheaper in the US. Our greedy retailers are to blame for the first two and our government policy on booze for the latter.

We can control our retailers by voting with our wallets. So yes, buy where cheapest.
