Looks like the neo-cons and their beloved leader are about to take another big shot in the nads.

British army chief says Iraq pullout needed soon
Last Updated: Thursday, October 12, 2006 | 9:22 PM ET
CBC News

The head of the British army has called Prime Minister Tony Blair's Iraq policies "naive" and said the country's troops must get out of the war soon, according to a published interview.

Gen. Sir Richard Dannatt, chief of the general staff, said the British military presence is exa****ating the security problems in Iraq, according to an interview with the Daily Mail published on their website Thursday.

"The military campaign we fought in 2003 effectively kicked the door in," said Gannett. "Whatever consent we may have had in the first place may have turned to tolerance and has largely turned to intolerance.'

"I think history will show that the planning for what happened after the initial successful war fighting phase was poor, probably based more on optimism than sound planning," he added.

The public criticism from a serving military official is certain to cause a stir.

Several British media outlets are reporting that Defence Secretary Des Browne has summoned Dannatt for a meeting on Friday.

Dannatt, who just took over the post in August, said he was concerned about the implications in Britain. He said a "moral and spiritual vacuum in this country" has been exploited by Muslim extremists.

Do I smell dissent in the ranks???

Ya, bloody hell – the timing is so unfair… :D

Just weeks before the mid-term elections we have all the following coming down (hard)… and just a short list of the highlights:

- foleygate
- the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health report suggesting 600,000+ Iraqi war dead
- Woodward’s book “State of Denial” showing all the Republican missteps leading up to 9/11 and the bungling of the Iraqi war
- Kuo’s book “Tempting Faith” which paints a picture of the Republican lies and deceit offered to the Christian Right by Rove and Bush to secure their votes
- the NIA report offering up the consensus from 16 U.S. intelligence agencies that the Iraqi war has increased the threat of terrorism worldwide
- U.S. Senator John Warner, the Republican chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, fresh off a trip to Iraq, states the U.S. has taken a step back and might soon need to consider “a change in course”
- the influence-peddling scandal involving convicted Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff resurfaces with a congressional committee report showing many White House contacts with Abramoff
- and now “the British are leaving, the British are leaving”

… looks like the Democrats have the upper-hand in October surprises… uhhh... for now

Uno viso, omnia visa sunt
The only mistake is that the British went to Iraq in the first place,
George W, lies/cheats and steals to send his own forces, Tony Blair was gayer than Richard Simons to take it up the arse and follow W like a good bitch.

The other problem is that the Democrats are higher in the polls basically by default. The current administration is so abysmal that you don't need to communicate an alternate vision -- Americans are starting to realize that any alternative is better.

I would love to have a better alternative to the GOP and the Dems could be that with very little effort. They have not put forward that effort.

Instead they are obsessed with Folley. They will spend the next 2 years impeaching Bush.

I think the door is open for third party candidates to have a shot in 08. Maybe even the head hauncho job. I think most Americans are fed up with both parties.

Can George W. Bush be declared the WORST president in the history of the US?

Some one needs to. If there has been a president more deserving to be impeached, at least since the days of Dick Nixon, it's George W. Bush. Two wars for no legitimate reason that are costing billions and billion each month with no results, other than rising death tolls for Iraqi and Afghan civilians. Let's not forget the care free attitude towards abusing civil liberities.

And they should be. US democracy would make some forward progress if there were enough voters to finally "fuck-off" to the Republicans and Democrats.

I put to you LD that Canada is more progressive advanced than the US because of having a viable left-of-center party in the NDP (originally the CCF). While the NDP has not come close to winning power federally, there is no doubt that their policies have been "adopted" by the Liberal and Conservative parties over time. This all despite the vicious rhetoric the latter two parties usually heap on the NDP for the same policies.

Furthermore, the US, like Canada, needs to dump their respective election systems and go with a proportional representation system in which the desires of the voters are more accurately reflected. That in turn would greatly help to destory the monopoly the most powerful parties have over politics.

The British will probably leave soon as there are political and public pressures on Tony Blair to get out of Iraq:mad:
I can see this happening probably early in 2007.

There's been political and public pressures on Tony Blair BEFORE the British Army invaded Iraq without just cause. Tony Blair is stepping down soon, so it's not like he suddenly gives a shit now, you think???

No, only the worst president of the media age. Say, since Calvin Coolidge, who was likely the first president ever to be heard on radio, or seen on film (with sound).

Not sure i know enough about, say, Zachary Taylor or William Henry Harrison, to determine that Dubya is the worst president in U.S. history.

I think the electorate who voted him in in 2004 can be declared the dumbest, and least informed in history though. Maybe least informed isn't exactly right. Most misinformed may be more accurate.
