For any of you out there that have a number that comes up blocked or pritave caller. I know with Telus all you have to do is dial (star*82) so it will allow your numer to show. I just thought i'd share it since I have a blocked number and have had trouble getting ahold of SP's in the past.

There is a service you can get that lets you decide what number to show up as when you dial out, so when someone decides to *82 you, they only see that number and not your real one.

U mean *69 you?

Somebody cannot *82 you... you must dial *82 before dialing out.

On a side note, I recently switched to Primus... anybody know what their code is? Don't tell me they don't have... not too impressed with them so far... I might have to switch again... advice anybody? Should I go VOIP?

I think what OH DICK!! DICK!! means is that you can spoof numbers. Make your number show up as what ever one you want.

was with Primus or some other cheap service. That was until he made a collect call to home from Hawaii. 5 minute call was $35.00 He switched back to Telus and the next one cost $3.00. So look for the hidden charges.

there are several universal truths in this world and one of them is that when it comes to haircuts, pizza, hookers and phone companies you get what you pay for

To VOIP or not to VOIP

Your hunch about Primus is correct. In my experience, their service didn't work very well at all. In fact, the only thing they were good at was invoicing for services not rendered. Their customer service really bites. My advice: stay away in droves my friend.

Amen to that! Last year, I was working at my boss's house and one of the projects was to get one of his long distance lines switched from Rogers to Primus because they offered a much better rate to Mexico and he makes a lot of calls to there. I phoned Primus customer service and knowing their propensity for taking a long while to answer, I just put the call on speaker phone and carried on with some other work. Three hours and twenty minutes later, my other work was done and so I left. No human had answered the call, though we were assured repeatedly that someone would be with us shortly and they were sorry for the delay. He left it on speaker phone for another two hours before finally giving up and hanging up. Primus is truly in a class by themselves when it comes to crappy customer service. I believe they've outsourced it to a permanently stoned surfer dude who lives on a desert island somewhere in the south Pacific.

Sorry Massagelady, but nothing I said was meant to indicate deception towards women as a population, nor SPs in particular. I was merely talking about the technical possibilities with regard to caller ID.

The defensive (or the ones with victim complex) always assume the worst intention out of what people say.

Relax Massagelady!!!!!!!!

massagelady said:
What if I have a "victims complex"? What if you teach the wrong guy how to disguise himself; he cuts the throat of a woman and is untracable?

By the way, it could happen to your g/f or to her friends.

And please, don't insult my intelligence by giving me such a lame explanation.:)

U need to relax Massagelady I was only tryin to help out people that have unknown numbers on caller ID. Also I know anytime I have used star* 82 before dialing the number, my REAL number shows up (Telus). Also use your head and think about it if someone was going to cut throats do you honestly think they would use their pesonal cell. Hell its as easy as going to a pay phone those numbers always show up and then its pretty hard to trace. I think that your just paranoid, and are thinking only of the worst in people!... I was only tryin to help out cause its a pain in the ass when tryin to get ahold of SP's. with a restricted cell number. --------D.F.F.D--BRM--81

Without being overly dramatic, sp's are risking their lives. There are dangerous people out there.

Call me paranoid, I don't care. ;)

You're not gonna go home until you have understood this:)
Dear paranoid,

a displayed 'fake' number is only one part of the safety issue, as the sp should also, if she doesn't 'recognize' the number, call the client back at the number displayed. I don't believe the technology allows you to post a fake number that will then route calls ... it would just give a message saying that number does not exist.

and the safety issue goes both ways ... one reason i have almost 100% of my sessions with the agencies is that i know what i am walking into most times.

with the indies (though they have been great!) who knows what could have been behind the door? and that doesn't mean just the sp herself, but one of the many stalkers out there who we all remember used to hang out here ...

so while i do agree with your concerns, i cannot agree with your approach though ... if you don't like something that has been posted, politely ask that it be removed -- many of the posters are reasonable about it.

Typical male approach, used to work with me, doesn't anymore:)

You know what I am thinking?

I am thinking that women should have a board for themselves where they can discuss these things freely, without being shut up or ridiculed by the guys. ;)
attack the messenger? if you consider my post an attack then you do have problems.

and there is a board for sp's to talk amongst themselves.

exactly, simple solutions usually work the best

It does exist but isn't in the scope for residential customers as it requires all sorts of signaling across the network.

There is some question if the incident to which you are referring actually happened. That's all I'm gonna say about it.
