Go get it, you`ll be glad you did! New BBM 5.0.0.33 is out and it now works with BB OS 5.0 which is sweet....:D

Currently I`m running a Storm 9530 with 5.0.0.230 loaded on this thing. Running awesome!!

Just go to App World and search for Blackberry Messenger and download the one that comes up. It`s a big file to download to your BB though, I think it was around 2.6MB though, but well worth it! :)

what makes it so much better?
It runs faster, has a new UI that looks better IMHO, you now have a barcode as well as a PIN so to add new contacts you just take a picture of the other persons barcode, simple as that. Also now you have the ability to send files up to 6MB via BBM.

Other stuff too, but I haven`t found it yet lol...

How do you download a newer OS for blackberry? I have the desktop manger etc installed but there doesn't seem to be anyway to download updated software for the phone. Also the media part never works it just freezes, even with the updated version of desktop manager.

@ReluctantPooner
the official os update releases vary depending on your blackberry model & your carrier

I'm using the bb desktop manager for MAC but I imagine the process should be similar in the PC desktop manager

your blackberry should be connected to your computer via usb
in your desk manager, there should be an application icon
within applications you should have a button that is labeled check for updates

hth's :)

If your on Telus, the latest "official" release is 4.7.0.122. If your on Bell, it's 4.7.0.148 (good, I ran it for a while). I run 5.0.0.230, a "leaked" OS that I downloaded. It was made by RIM (Blackberry) just like the officials, it just hasn't been oficially adopted by a carrier yet.

If you want more information as to how to upgrade your blackberry (Any model) then just shoot me a PM. Or visit www.crackberry.com and you'll know all! :)

I think that the only thing that I'm more obsessed about than blonds is my Blackberry. I even write my own basic programs for the thing, swap .cod files to try to improve things, the list goes on....:)

I'm on Telus BTW, and I hate those bastards! grrr...

There is a program you can download that does just that! It's called Filelock AIR and it works quite well...:)

If you want I can point you in the right direction...:)

So when is BB going to have a flash player? Can't get to a lot of sites (esp porn!) without a flash player. Any ideas? I heard it isn't worthwhile for RIM to develop it...
Flash will not be supported on any Blackberry device until the new browser is introduced. RIM is currently building and testing it, so expect it in high-end BB's that will be released most likely end of 2010...:)

That would be awesome, Thanks!!
Do you have an OTA link for filelock you can post?
I'm sure the other perb-erts who use BB can make use of the program too :p
Unfortunately I don't know of a OTA download for Filelock however I have converted the "FILELOCK.jar" file to a format that all berry users should be able to install via the Desktop Manager software.

The RAR file is located here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?vujd1mjsluh

Instructions

1. Download File.
2. Un-RAR files (Filelock.cod and Filelock.alx)
3. Plug in your blackberry to your computer
4. Start Desktop Manager
5. Click on Application Loader.
6. Click the Add button (after it does it's search and verify thing...)
7. Navigate to the files you decompressed out of the RAR file.
8. Click on Next and install.
9. After your berry restarts you should have the FileLock program available. Its icon looks like a little pink key with a beige or blue background. When you start the program, allow it to access the files. If you choose to deny, you will have to delete and reinstall the program. (It cannot hide and lock your files if you don't let it)...

Hope this helps! If this doesn't make sense then let me know...:)

I'd highly suggest making a full backup of your BB before attempting any sort of install, however out of the multiple, multiple times I've upgraded OS's (At least 20 by now) and upgraded BBM (Over 5) I've never had a problem. Only once, but that was my fault really for messing with something I shouldn't have.

To answer your question HubbaHubba yes it will. 99.9% of the time.
