That is absolutely stunningly sad. It could have happened anywhere. In Richmond there are tons of growups. I can imagine that in the future, that there will be "less" raids for police safety sake, but at the same time, if they do raid a growup it won't be four officers with handguns, but instead 8 officers with automatic rifles.
There's bound to be a few neighbours caught in future crossfires.
The focus should be on four dead RCMP officers. The marijuana debate can wait for another day.
I have several friends who are police officers - they take even one lost colleague quite hard - this historic tragedy will be felt for a long time to come.
Sure, the suspect took his own life, too, but loved ones of the fallen officers will never get closure. It's sad that this will, in all likelihood, deeply affect dozens of people. and hundreds of police across North America.
Well said, LD.
I've got family in the Force, and I work pretty closely with them. Hearing the news report today was a major shock and sadness, and I really feel for all the members right now...
I could get into the drug thing, but I'm already getting smacked around for that for statements to friends, so I'll stay out of that debate. =P
Whoever said, "jackass"...Thank you.
My father, cousin and uncle are all cops.
My grandfather was a mountie.
Before you go using the vernacular and showing the world that you have little to no command of the English language, you should know who you are throwing them at.
This is indeed a sad day. I can only imagine what they are going through right now. I can only offer my condolences.
When you live in a family of LE, you soon learn the politics of it all. To use only one word was perhaps a little harsh; and I apologize for those that I have offended - it was not meant to offend.
Im sorry to say this but the thread is about the RCMP who lost there lives not about decriminalisation of marijuana. If thats a intresting topic someone post a new thread.
After reading about the guy who shot them, I can't help but think that it would have been worse. I mean, it could have ended up as our own version of the Waco thing.
This is obviously a terrible tragedy which has senselessly claimed four lives and forever changed four families.
However, it is somewhat nauseating to see police across the country trying to leverage the tragedy into a call for a crackdown on grow ops. This event had little to do with a grow op. The grow op was merely the setting. Rather, it had everything to do with a loner nutbar who had guns. A bad seed whose own father called him a "wicked devil".
The mourning of the slain officers should not be sullied by such cheap and transparent grandstanding.
You can download a tribute slideshow of the memorial service for the fallen officers here. (Its a Powerpoint file which you have to download. Once the link is up, scroll to the bottom of the page and select the "Free" download option. After a brief 60-90 second wait, a download link will appear at the bottom of the page.)
