Hello, British Columbia

It will be my first time traveling to Vancouver, BC may 21-26. I am a true foodie, lover of steak and seafood especially. (Oysters, scallops, lobster, crab, shrimp, just name a few) I would prefer a more discreet location or private restaurant , so I can attend with clients. I am open to trying anything once. Let me know of your suggestions.

Thank you!

Hi Autumn and welcome to Perb :D

For me, I'm never disappointed by a steak meal at Hy's.

There are so many seafood places in Vancouver. One I like is Yew in the Four Seasons. It's not exactly quiet or discrete but does have a great selection of fresh seafood. By the way, Hy's usually has some nice seafood options for the non-steak diner.

Some good options listed above.

One of my personal faves for surf and turf is Black & Blue on Alberni Street. Fabulous and extensive wine list to compliment their dishes.
With all due respect to Ray's suggestion of The Keg, good food and service but their Prime Rib remains over salted. Prime Rib at other fine restaurants are far less salty than The Keg's in my humble opinion.

Enjoy.

My deck and bbq lol! seriously though, The Keg, Hy's and Gotham are the tops, and are all owned by the same family so....can't go wrong with any of the 3 top ones imo

Second recommendation for Blue Water Cafe and Joe Fortes. Both excellent and you won't be disappointed. They both do surf and turf well although if you're looking for a steak I think Joe Fortes is a little better with the turf side of things.

If you like good oysters, try Rodney's in Yaletown on Hamilton during their low tide (happy hour from 3- 6). It's more casual but a good atmosphere and really good seafood.

Or if you're feeling really swanky try Hawksworth. It's expensive, but good food from our most famous chef David Hawksworth. You're paying for the name though.

I would stay away from the Boathouse. It's a chain that "specializes" in seafood but how a seafood chain can constantly overcook salmon I'll never know. I'm also not a fan of Coast restaurant even though some of the people from Joe Fortes went there. Small portions and food is not on par with Joe Fortes.

I have found Yew to be hit or miss. I think they've gone through a few executive chefs over the years and it's been either flop or fantastic.

For something really casual and a little different try Pacific Poke. Try their Kits location... it's a little nicer than Main Street. Plus it's not too far from Kits beach for a nice after dinner stroll.

Good luck to you.

In Your Wildest Dreams!
Surprised that no one has mentioned Cardero's in Coal Harbour as a seafood place! I've found it a perfect place for a dinner date on more than one occasion, and I'll add another vote for Blue Water as well!

As an alternative for a VERY private & discreet, impeccably prepared gourmet seafood meal? Consider chatting up either Peyton Alexander or Mlle Lorence Vennes & book a diner au trois! Both of these lovely young women are AMAZING cooks. I never eat so well or so healthy as when I dine with either of them! I'm sure you'll find any number of Vancouver gentlemen who'd love to indulge with you...

Bon appetit!

I was down in Yaletown on a cold rainy day and stopped into Rodneys for a seafood chowder to warm me up. A great place for casual eats.

“Coast”, part of the Glowbal Group. Located on Alberni Street. Longtime Joe Fortes head chef Frenchie now heads up Coast. Great seafood, especially Oysters, Salmon and Lobster. Good steaks. Great ambiance. They will also cater to “discrete seating” if requested at time of booking.

Enjoy Autumn!

Hey there!

It would have been an absolute pleasure to have you over and have you experience some delicious BC hospitality first hand, however I am currently out of town.
The seafood is so fresh and delicious, it basically only requires the softest of touch of lemon and dill (and butter!) to enhance it and bam - it just truly shines.

I do highly recommend going to Peyton's - I've only heard the stories, but they've made me drool.

I'll be back mid-June - If you find anything outstanding, let me know, I'll dig in too! :)

Bisous,

L

Frenchie was never the chef of Joe Fortes. He was a long-time waiter and then became a partner and the Maitre d'. He's now the Maitre d' at Coast.

You’re correct Pantherdash. I was under the impression he managed the back end as well. Anyway, after 26 years ay Joe Fortes its a great move for Coast. Cheers.

Coast uses David Pratt as a spokesman. He's such a fucking ham-head. Pretty sure he's got his bulb plugged firmly into Frenchie's socket. I hope the food is better than the shill.
Joe Fortes has always been a go-to for me to meet up with out of towners.
