dumb question
I thought this would be a fun idea (I didn't even do a search but I am sure someone else beat me to it) but what the hell....

L.A. Confidential (alltime fav and tied with the last on the list)
Goodfellas
American Beauty
I'm Gonna Git You Sucka!
Scarey Movie (the first one)
U.S. Marshals
Kalifornia (fucked up but there are worse)
FOrty Yearold Virgin
The Negotiator
A Time to Kill
Blow

Although this isn't an actual movie I will add ANY episode of Six Feet Under.
I am sure I am forgeting some but I'll leave it at that.

Mine Are...

In no particular order:

Platoon
Gladiator
Matrix
Original Star Wars
Heat
Goodfellas
WallStreet

Couldn't think of any comedy movies that should really be considered ground-breaking or simply very entertaining to watch.

You have some good ones.

Platoon - Stone's best movie
Heat - one of the best heist movies whereas Ocean's 11 was more about looks
Star Wars - ahead of it's time and the plot is consistent with many issues we have today. Greed - power - weapons of mass destruction - Dick Chaney
is the Emperor.
WallStreet - it was cool at the time but watching Gordon Gecko using the 10 lb cellular phone now is hilarious.
Matrix - did he take the red or blue pill? Good Story - Good Visual Effects (the overhead aerial and super slow motion action sequence)

I also liked Schindler's List and Hotel Rwanda - I left the theatre feeling kind of numb and in awe of what people had to do in order to survive. And yet here we are going into the 3rd month of secretly dumping garbage at any available bin.

Something Wild

Charles Driggs, (Jeff Daniels), a N.Y. stockbroker gets abducted ,kind of --(picked up), by Lulu (Melanie Griffith) a N.York streetwise gal ,and she takes him on an adventure, (road trip) ,and fucks him silly, (the lucky little shit.)

I used to be a broker so it is appealing ,the kind of fantasy that might have happened if it weren't for all those hrs. spent --- cold calling.

what about the classics?

A few movies from the golden age of cinema.

Pride of the Yankees
Ocean's 11( the original these new ones lack any cool)
Days of wine and roses (Jack Lemmon's best film)
and of course CASABLANCA (a masterpiece on every level)

Slightly obscure, but very good IMHO.

Glengarry Glenross, David Mamet screenplay, with: AL Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin, Alan Arkin, Ed Harris, Kevin Spacey, Jonathan Pryce, need I say more?

Sleuth, Sir Lawrence O. & Michael Caine--- A supreme mind fuck of a flick with superb acting.

True West, Sam Sheppard screenplay, John Malkovich, Gary Sinese (before he sold out.) For those who have problematic brothers.

Of Mice and Men, John Malkovich, Gary Sinese (as above).

I can't believe Blue Velvet isn't up yet, maybe I missed it, anyway, for those who have seen it ,and for those who haven't---

"Heineken, fuck that shit, Pabst Blue Ribbon."
