Try the "Bo Kong" (I think it's on Main or Fraser). It's a Buddhist Chinese restaurant, all vegetarian. They have these awesome "meat" dishes that taste like pork or beef or chicken, made entirely from non-meats like vegetables, cane, glutten, soya, etc. Very friendly to non-Chinese too, so it is comfortable for the rest of us. The food is excellent, very clean, non-greasy. Ambience is good, bright and clean. Try the deep fried condensed milk balls too.

Big Lai Palace by Metrotown is pretty good. Food ranges from good to challenging.

Most of my friends are vegetarian and they all talk about Bo Kong, I've been once and it was OK. They have a restaurant in Richmond as well. I don't like onions or garlic and apparently Buddists don't eat these either so the food isn't prepared with either. The menu said something about the bulbs creating poor "karma"!
I think there are also some vege dim sum places. I read an article a while back in the Sun about them.

If you like spicy food, the Green Lettuce on Victoria and Kingsway is excellent!!!!

In addition, Penny restaurant and On Lok on East Hastings is always decent.

Great food at On Lok but not the best place for a romantic evening with a special lady.
