Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
Just heard this has happened.
BC gets a young import reciever named Harper with lots of potential and a 3rd rounder in the draft.
I'm a Rider fan and I think Geroy will help them this year when the push is on to make the GC, as it is in Regina but I think in a couple of years Wally will have come out on top. He's got a real knack for knowing when guys are done and letting them go and when Simon's contract is for $200 K a year, Wally knows he can and should spend the money elsewhere.
It's just too bad they couldn't have reworked his contract and Geroy couldn't have retired a Lion. He's a classy guy.
What do you Lion's fans think of this?

I'm devastated.

Good bye ticket sales for the lions.

Question is, where does Wally think that Simon is done?
I'd like to hear that answer.

And now a knew import named Harper?
Something about that name makes me wanna puke! :pound:

I`m a really big fan of Geroy both on the field and off. It is always hard to say goodbye to someone who has given so much to the team and the community. Having said that, I believe the Lions made the right decision going with a more youthful receiving corp. I wish Geroy all the best and he will be missed!

agreed. Geroy had a wonderful career with us, and will be missed. However, in the last couple of years, his yardage is starting to fall, and he is getting older. I'm with Wally on this one too. We also have Arland Bruce III who has proved he is more than capable to take his place.

Losing Arland Bruce and Geroy Simon were two of the worst decisions the Bombers ever made

I would have let go of Chapdelaine (brutal play calling) before letting go of Geroy.
good luck in Ridertown Geroy, you're a class act.

BC won't suffer in the WR position, though I question the re-signing
of Reid and Phillips (nothing against them, I think father time may hurt come WF).
maybe they took a pay cut?

I would have preferred to see Geroy finish his career in Vancouver and then hopefully become a receivers coach.

But like they say, it is a business.

Why don't we trade the entire team to Sasktchewan for their hookers. Id much rather look at hookers than the bc lions.

In the NBA, it happened to James Harden and Rudy Gay.

I think he'll come back and sign up with BC when its retirement time like what Brian Dawkins did with the Eagles during the recent NFL season.

Its a win-win situation for both Geroy and the Lions. Geroy gets the $$$ he thinks he deserves with another team and BC gets Harper and exercises fiscal responsibility at the same time. :) :)

Like any sport, it is a business. More so in small market football like CFL.

Wally got as much as he could out of Geroy and with his large salary (compared with equal and younger receivers) it was time to let him go.

I do see him on the sidelines in the future one day as a receivers coach; he would have lots to share with younger players.

Good post rintin6,

I agree with your thoughts on Geroy Simon. I'm an Edmonton Eskimos season ticket holder and while i was extremely pissed pff with Eric Tillman's decision to trade Ricky Ray last year I never considerred not renewing my season tickets. AS it turns out, last season was a disaster for the Esks and at times i had wished i would havee not re-newed but the team will always be more imprtant than any one player. I think Geroy Simon is done as well, Wally Beunno knows what he is doing and this may be a blessing for the Lions. Cap issues are always a problem for every team, the Lions do have saome depth at REciever and will be fine, the Esks situation last season was a train wreck because there was no replacement for Ray and Steven Jyles failed miserably. If Simon stays healthy and goes out and catches 100 passes then maybe fans have a beef with Wally but i would not count on Simon putting up those numbers.

Not being critical of Geroy Simon as he is one of the best ever but he is a fringe player at best at this point in his career.

I find it funny how many people who are "season ticket holders" are threatening to not renew their season tickets over this. I'd say over the past two years, Geroy has had more and more games where he looked really old. The writing of him not returning or retiring was on the wall. Especially since the Lions receivnig corps is stacked. Best case scenario, Geroy has one decent year left in him. But he's not worth his asking price to be the #2 or #3 option in a cap league. If he stayed with the Leos and continued to have his numbers declined, it'd probably get a little ugly over here. The Lions will be a very good team without Geroy. Hats off for Wally to have the giant stones to pull off the trade.
