Anyone but the Liberals, they are the most arrogrant, secretive and corrupt government that this province has ever had....and they have given away major assets and public utilities for virtually nothing to their corporate donor friends.

I hate the Liberals even more than I hate the other options. If one of them gives me a reasonable offer to buy my vote, I might reconsider.

When the jerks in Ottawa decide to call an election, I will have a similar choice (I hate the Conservatives more than I hate the others).

The Election Is a Side Show

The real action is the referendum on electoral reform. All those complaints about the parties and the politicians will continue unchanged unless we get a better voting system.

Vote Yes For STV

This has been a paid non-political announcement.

That is the problem with the our voting system and why it needs changing.

Make sure you also vote yes to BC-STV referendum.

While its not proportional voting it's still a start, and sadly even with it the lack of choice in BC politics is will never go away.

You're right about that. With fixed election dates - which I'm in favour of - the election starts when the last one finished.

However, if the NDP lose this election, I think Carol James will step down as leader and the party will have a leadership race and that should make for some interesting politics.

In my opinion, the problem with politics today is that every party is fighting for the middle ground and they all sound the same in their efforts to cater to the voter in the mushy middle.

Having been involved in the political game for many years, I look at politics now with disinterest. Maybe I'm too cynical. Maybe I'm too old OR both!

This paid non-political announcement was approved by the Council of Asian Pooners for Electoral Reform (CAPERs).

First Off If you think the Fiberals are Corrupt then you've forgotten the legacy those NDP hacks left the last 8 years they were in power. They lined their freaking pockets and almost bankrupted this province all in 8 years. Health care line ups, problems with the hospital, school closures etc etc etc all started when the NDP were in power. (They took over from the then Corrupt Social Creditors.)

Harcourt, Clark, Dosanj...etc lined their pockets with your tax dollars. But yet you all forget all that. The Most Corrupt Politicians in the history of this Province. They made what Vanderzalm did look like a sunday walk in the park. All started when Harcourt said "Lets boogie" they had a big party for 8 years and we are just getting over the hangover still.

I'll never vote for those NDP hacks ever again in my lifetime.
Not impressed at all with Carole James or the NDP's policies. In my viewpoint she can't run a bake sale let alone a province. All this 1 year before we invite the world here for 2010.

Can you imagine the financial shambles this Province would actually be in after 4 years of NDP lead. OMG. If you think we are headed into a recession now, just vote in the people who will tax you to death.

I'll admit Campbell and the Liberals are no saints either but Because I have a decent paying job, I run a business in this province that employes people and I have a older son who has Autism (At least the Liberals gave us some funding to help, NDP's heath ministry's answer was to have Sunny hill hospital delay on reporting the increase of spectrum disorders during their time in office and then put it all under the social services ministry. Autism became not a medical condition.. no it was a social condition under the NDP.) A lot of that came out after the NDP was thrown out of office.

So I'll vote Liberal. Thanks.

Oh and by the way I'm voting No on the STV. everywhere they have done this it has lead to problems. Once entrenched you'll never get it out. Period.

Just for the love of this province educate yourself on the issues of the differing voting systems STV vs our standard SMDP system (Plurality), then the history and the legacy of corruption in this province. before you cast your ballot. understand the economics involved in your decision.

Holy Christ - the last thing this province needs is the NDP in power. They're a great opposition party, but their policies just don't work in government. Just ask Ontario - I think they're still recovering from the NDP debacle 15 or so years ago.

It's fun to hate the liberals, and the media makes it easy (the media's existence depends on their ability to convince you that the government is screwed up and that only the media can save you by pointing put how screwed up it is .... but I digress). But, IMHO, the Liberals are the lesser of the evils.

Just think - if the media didn't work so hard to make such a mockery of politicians, then maybe we'd get some more capable people involved in politics.

Such as? Based on what I've read, it's worked just fine in the countries it's used.

Once entrenched you'll never get it out. Period.
Actually, it's supposed be reviewed after 2-3 election cycles. More than likely, the politicians will try to get it changed like they did in Ireland where they held two referendums to change to our current system. Both times, the people voted to keep STV.

Actually, this is the misconception that the right wing media keeps spinning, mainly global tv and canwest (van sun and province). Canwest global are large donators to the Liberals and Federal Conservatives (keep that in mind).

The BC Liberals inherited a 1.5 Billion dollar SURPLUS when they obtained power in 2001 - I know, hard to believe and is something you never hear. But this surplus was confirmed by the auditor general, and independent officer of the legislature.

But what followed next was Campbell's record 2 deficits. He had the LARGEST 2 deficits in BC history, $3.15 Billion in 2002/2003 fiscal year. This was brought on by major tax cuts (largely benefitted to his corporate friends), and as a result he slashed social spending to pay for them.

What fuelled the economic boom was commodity prices and the real estate boom. Now both have fallen and Campbell will be running large deficits again (he is lying about the amount though).

If you compare the economic record of growth by GDP in the Campbell years vs the NDP years, you will see the average economic growth was higher under the NDP, but you will have to look very hard to find this.

You can read it for yourself here.

http://thetyee.ca/Views/2009/04/14/CampbellEra/

Also, last month, Under Campbell BC lead the country in job losses:
http://www.journalofcommerce.com/article/id33443/profservices

Of course, this would have been front page in the papers if the NDP was in power, but it gets it buried deep in the inside pages of the paper.

Bottom line, if Campbell gets back in, the deficit will be much higher than he said, and he will make further cuts to government programs and social spending to balance the books.

As for the earlier post about the NDP in Ontario, yes they ran a deficit of $1 billion dollars. But much of the job losses were do to manufacturing plants that closed down because of the Free trade agreement that Mulroney brought in, and successive goverments have expanded. These jobs have never come back.

And what Bob Rae did was to spend $ to stimulate the economy. For that he was crucified, yet that is the exact same thing that Harper and Campbell are now doing.
