So, I had a family of wasps move into my BBQ and I'm not quite sure how to go about moving them out... I'm thinking bug spray isn't something I want to use on my BBQ, but I'm a bit afraid to burn them out... any advice?

I guess I'm just looking for some general BBQ maintenance advice... I've had the thing for 2 years now, and I have to admit I haven't cleaned out the coals, or whatever those pellets are at the bottom. I don't use it much (in fact I'm still on the first tank of propane) so I don't think it's a problem, but how often do you need to replace them?

Any advice is much appreciated :)

Burn em

Light the BBQ and go in the house for a while. They will all be ashes when you return 30 minutes they will be well done. Leave the lid closed so not many get away. The only way out is thru the rotisarie hole so if you can put a little tin foil plug in there. Some may get out the bottom but not many will make it past the flame.

And no I am not a sadistic bastard.

Wanna BBQor not.

Another method but I like the fist one due to possiblity of stings is very soapy water (dish soap) from a spray bottle. Spray one good and it will be dead in about 4-5 secs.

closed lid....sorry

Hey Sandi, hope you read between the lines and didnt close the lid until it was lit. Sorry bout that, I needed to specify that earlier. Hopefully stryker got to you in time; lighting with the lid closed is a real bad idea.

For a second, when I firsted opened this, I thought you meant wasp as the accronym for White Anglo-Saxon Protestants. But of course, you mean the insects. Frankly, I'd rather deal with the bugs....

Tess, I hope you have not take offense at my comment, certainly none was intended. I just thought the image of some White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestants moving into Sexgoddess's bbq grill was hilarious. Real wasps taking up residence, not so much with the funny.

friends....

I had a couple of friends over tonight, and I showed them the wasp nest in the bbq in the hopes of convincing one of them to light it for me. So, like the druken moron my one friend is, he attempts to simply grab it, with his bare hand, with the sleeping wasps inside of it, with the intention of throwing it off the balcony. Surprise, surprise, it was stuck on harder then he thought, and he woke them up and pissed them off. I'm still not sure it's safe to go out there.... I guess I'll have to torch them for real tomorrow night when they are sleeping... thanks for the advice :) I'll let you know how it goes...

Gone!

So, now that the rain has finally let up, I thought it would be a good time to light up the BBQ. To my surprise, my moronic friend actually did quite a bit of damage! It looks like he knocked the nest down from the lid, and it looks pretty crushed, so I guess they decided to move out. I'm buring off the remains right now, and I don't see any of them back for revenge... it looks like I'm gonna have a nice BBQ this evening after all.

Thanks to everyone for the tips!

Oh great SG, what about the rest of us that did not get any input? I think lighting it was the better idea. If you lived on the 15th floor or something, you could have just chucked the BBQ over the edge ;)

Or you could have BBQ'd some nice honey garlic ribs for the old buzzers.

Do not want to piss off a B with an "itch"?

My bbq has such piss poor heat that I can store beer in there. Think my regulator is plugged so will have to check that out.

Another word of caution is that some people (could be you or one of your friends) could be extremely allergic to those critters. I know two people that succumbed to bee stings. Not good.
