Can anybody offer me suggestions as to a good anti spyware program?

The one I'm using now is a freebie - SUPER anti spayware - but since I've been using it, my computer is running slower than a Commodore 54. Over the last couple of days, when I try to go on a website it is so slow that it sometimes times out. However, my biggest complaint is that I can't watch porn anymore because the downloading is glacial.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Spyware and Stuff

I have been using SpyBot Search and Destroy w\Tea Timer for years. I also use Crap Cleaner to get rid of Temp files etc. and Startup Inspector to get rid of unnecessary programs in startup. Uninstall any anti-spyware programs, or similar, and then install whatever program you choose. I also suggest a boot time scan. If your Anti-Virus offers a boot scan, implement it. You can also download the Avast Home Anti-Virus and it will run a boot scan. It is FREE as are all of the other programs listed.
Other Techs will make other suggestions. We all have our favorites. Except for the AVAST, I run these programs in a business environment, on multiple machines, with excellent results.
Cheers

I tend to run a fairly lean setup on my "dirty surfer". I use Mozilla Firefox with lots of utilities.

I have system restore on but if there is a problem you will have to turn system restore off. The malware may just pop back on after you have tried to remove it is system restore is on.

Use Crap Cleaner - clearing out the temp files etc makes the scanners work quicker. I also do a registry scan just to see what pops up. CC also has Uninstall and Startup managers. You might use these to see if there are unused programs still loading on your machine.

AVG Anti-Virus is on continuously. I also use ClamWin Anitvirus maybe once a week. I've found a couple of items with ClamWin that wasn't picked up by AVG.

Keep your software upto date. Secunia Personal Software Inspector and File Hippo Update Checker are both good programs. Having a lean machine helps as there seems to be weekly updates to a lot of programs. Adobe and Firefox lately.

I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Spybot-Search & Destroy, SUPER AntiSpyware, and A-Squared. (A-Squared is from Germany and has found a few suspects that the others didn't see)

Running one of these programs each night and keep a log of what was run should keep your system happy.

I put all the updates on a 8 meg memory stick so I can avoid downloading repeated copies on my second machine.

This should take care of 90 % of any mal ware you run into.

Running these programs at night also keeps your machine free for surfing ..

If you do get a nasty trojan which doesn't seem to go away then you should consider doing a clean install of Windows which is the fastest way to go.

If you are running a hacked windows machine you should still do the update as Microsoft is supplying the security updates to all machines. You get a blacked out desktop and some minor dunning messages but that is all I've seen.

you need to have the super program fully removed.

I would get spybot search and destroy, Ad-Aware from lavasoft, and another program called malwarebytes anti-malware.
