I guess all of these guys are rookies this year, except Wang. Pretty nice rookie crop if you ask me

I think that Hernandez played in too many games last year to qualify as a rookie this year. He pitched in 84 innings and you must pitch less than 50 the previous year to qualify for rookie status in the current year. Considering his age though he is very impressive.

My vote is for Liriano though. First Radke, then Santana and now Liriano... the Twins sure can judge pitching talent! Almost as good as the A's.

Agree. Liriano was actually a throw-in as the 3rd player in the A.J. Pierziynski trade, if you can believe that. What about the Mariners? They've picked up some pretty solid players over the years. Only problem was coming up with the $$ to keep it all once that talent "grew up". Given what has transpired, its almost as if the M's are a farm team for the Yankees.

I think Felix will start to really hit his stride next season and when he does he'll be even better than Liriano. The M's have to allow him to throw that wicked slider too.

Hmm..a Marlies fan I see. Guess they're not too far down under for your radar.

I left Johnson off to see if anyone's paying attention, but I still need your vote

Humm...I have never watched Lariano or Verlander pitch. But my concern is about Lariano's health. From the last time i check, he is out of the season. ( I might be wrong).

As far as the better young pitchers, i would go for Wang and Weaver. ( Go Wang go..well, i am a abit bias, me and Wang came from the same country.) But i certainly thinks Weaver is the better young pitcher out there. I saw him pitched couple days ago on TV Vs Mariners. The way he setsup and deliver, he could make alot of hitters look stupid.

Any Cy Young predictions?

Barring injury my early vote goes to Rich Harden of the A's, judging by how he's looked during spring training and pre-season play. not even Johan santana can scorch batters the way Rich does with his fastball

And a big Harden fan. However, until Rich can go a whole season like he pitched in spring training (nearly 2 K's per inning) he is not in Santana's class. Ask me again in the fall.

And, regarding Santana, perhaps the best thing that ever happened to him was Gil Meche getting 55 million from the Royals, thus upping Zito's contract to 126 Million. How much could Santana possible get if he continues the way he has been going the last 3 years. Maybe the Red Sox and Yankees will have to pool their money and share him. LOL.

Good points. A little faith mixed in with some luck and I think Harden can do it. Remember, Santana's a notoriously slow starter, so anyone who wishes to beat Santana has to get off to a blazing start during the first few months and hang on the rest of the way while Santana's A-game gradually rounds into form.

Last season, Francisco Liriano (the Santana clone) was actually outpitching Santana until his unfortunate season-ending injury. Didn't he have to undergo Tommy-john surgery or something? Ouch

As for the Sox, at this point, I doubt they could afford to add even an NHL minimum salary to their payroll after what they've committed to Dice-K. Although the Yanks claim they are becoming more fiscally responsible, like a bad habit that doesn't go away, they'd pony up another ARod-like $200Million+ contract if Santana's services were to come available next winter

In case you were wondering why Harden did not pitch opening day, they held him back so he can go on Opening day in Oakland. But, he does pitch tonight and the A's need him to remind the Mariners where they belong. LOL. Thisw is written in honor of HAW.

I know its the NHL playoffs now, but its still early..

but holy molly, A-Rod's on fire and off to a blazing start. 2 walkoff HRs already and most importantly a complete turnaround from last season. Must be the new high socks he's sporting or something

10 HRs so far in April. Didn't Pujols set a record for 14 homers in April last season..anyone?

Harden's off to a solid start, but hopefully that shoulder doesn't become a bigger problem later on. Once again, Santana's starting off with an ERA over 3 but that'll come down as the season rolls on. Now that King Felix is down, its an open field for these young guns like Harden and Verlander to challenge JS
