Everyone should see this flick. If you're a guy and you didn't like it, well...

History Channel also ran a documetary on the battle which explained which parts of the movie were accurate and which were 'slightly altered'. For example, the king is fatally wounded by arrows in the initial volley and then sits out most of the battle while he slowly dies watching his soldiers eventually bravely die in front of him.

I just LOVE the fact that the Iranians are all upset that their great great great great ... great grandfathers are portrayed negatively in the film. Get over yourselves you bunch of self absorbed idiots.

Actually I think that the way they are acting NOW shows that they haven't changed all that much in the centuries that have passed, except that they took away all the naked dancing girls (gee wasn't that the smart change to make to a society).

You would see the exact same self absorption from others were Scots of King Malcolm portrayed as blood-lusting Orcs, or the Teutonic tribes portrayed as barbaric rapists and pillagers that worshipped idols and practised cannibalism, or the Chinese of the Four Kingdoms as ruthless snake-oil tradesmen. The Catholics of many European and Aboriginal ancestry went nuts when a recent movie portrayed Christ in a way that was too creative and not historical.

I think that your inability to put yourself in others' shoes shows your prejudice against others' ethnicities.

What an awesome movie! Saw it today. The battle scenes are really cool and the footage is unreal. Actually, the footage is unreal, it's all done on green screen just like Sin City which was also written by the guy who did this flick.

It is part true story part fantasy novella for sure. They sure make a point of differing Spartans from the more gayfully frolicing greeks. I did a wikipedia search on Xerxes and on the Battle I saw a pic of a painting of King Leonidas and company all naked except shield and spear. Me thinks that may not be the best way to go to war. Artiste not so real rendering I reckon. Maybe wishing.

Hmm.. how often are the French of the middle ages portrayed as military losers, brutish pigs or worse?

Somehow it doesn't bother me.

What about the germans in Hogan's Heroes? Do we see Germans protesting in the streets about they way they are portrayed? Nope. But is it accurate? I doubt it...

Anyone who tries hard enough will find something that offends them anywhere they look. But some people seem to try a LOT harder than others to be offended. I have no sympathy for them when they succeed at their goal.

-i thought that 1 reason the spartans fought so well was because they encouraged homosexuality amongst the troops..part of the thinking was that you would fight harder if your loved one was with you or under threat
Actually from what I've read it was more a grouping of immediate families in the same squads (ie: father/son and brothers etc...)

Somehow I doubt that a warrior culture would encourage homosexuality in their best warriors when the whole idea is to breed more good warriors. If anything, MAYBE bisexuality.

Well, that's news to me. I'm going by what I saw and heard in the movie and what I read on wikipedia. Lol... We all know about movies and the truth factor in wikipedia...

I guess you didn't watch the movie though. Or read the wiki...

Saw 300 last week and must while I did enjoy the it, I had the sinking feeling of deja vu. The "Few vs Many" theme has really been over done, and many of the scenes I've seen before. I like Zack Snyder, the director, he did a far better then expected job with the his remake of Dawn of the Dead.

My major faults with the film were "the Narrator", some of the dialog, and battle scenes that were all too familiar after the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Many many Germans were offended by Hogan's Heroes. In fact, that particular series had come up fairly often in German Bundestag (parliament) for awhile, and in the German popular press. Google it, you'll see. I'm certainly not against having fun, and not against poking fun at ethnicity, but when it's grossly overdone, done in bad spirit, or done over and over again, it's perfectly correct to get offended. Frankly, I think it's your general apathy that makes you insensitive to the pride of others in their ethnicity.

See what I mean. General apathy.

I think that people need to worry more about who they are and how they act themselves than spend time trying to find ways to be offended.

For example, it has been pointed out a few times that the europeans who first came to Canada were pretty nasty to the Natives, yep, they were. Somehow I don't take personal offense to that being pointed out. I personally had NOTHING to do with it, so why would I be offended by people pointing out the way some other people who weren't me acted a long time before I was born?

If they try to say that that I'm personally giving smallpox infected blankets to Natives, that would offend me.

Some people are just trying too hard to take anything anyone says personally, they need to get over themselves and realize that everything isn't always all about them.

I saw the 300 at a regular theatre and then again at the Imax. It was almost like two different movies. I got much more caught up in the visual style of it at the Imax, like watching a moving graphic novel and the limited story line, historical impossibilities (trained rhinos, etc.) didn't bother me so much.

The only things I still didn't like:

The narrator is way too Shakespearean.
The sex was too brief. I would have liked to see the Queen getting it from the evil guy and a whole bunch more times from Leonidas. The only time he got her was really hot.
King Leonidas has a wee mouth problem. I swear when he yells, "Prepare for Glory", his mouth moves sideways and he almost says, "Pweepare for Gwory!"

Here, I'll put myself in their shoes.
"Hey, maybe if I play the racial card and make a big enough stink about this, I'll get some kind of handout!"

We're seeing the same thing here in Canada with the Chinese head tax, and their great, great grandkids trying to collect on their dead relatives missed fortunes.

Made My Client Horny

I had a session with a client prior to the movie & we agreed to watch it
later in the evening. (We go on the occasion movie date too). After it was
over, I figure he'll head straight on home but nope. He wanted a second
round with me. I guess the movie made both of us horny. :D
