Conan

What choice did they have after the Leno/Letterman debocle. My guess is they are hoping every one will forget about how bad Conan is after Leno comes back in the fall and are just to lazy to change the channel.

Conan is definitely a step down, but he's not terrible.
He was a great writer, responsible for the early episodes of the Simpsons, but as a host he's not everyone's cup o' tea.

The one that makes me shake my head is Jimmy Fallon replacing Conan. This douche is the most annoying person on TV... and that includes the Sham-Wow guy.

Conan O'brien is my favourite of all late night talk shows. Up there with the Daily show, and Craig Ferguson which are hilarious. David Letterman has been downhill, I never liked Jay Leno, Carson Daly sucks, and Jimmy Fallon is annoying. Jimmy Kimmel is alright and the Colbert report has its times too.

Conan is simply the best out there to take over the Tonight Show - we've had to put up with Leno's hackfest for 18 years, it's about damned time the funny returns...

I don't find Conan funny. A lot of his stuff is just plain silly and slapstick.

Leno wasn't the best, but his monologues were pretty good.

Really? I thought that was the worst part of the whole show....
In my opinion, the only funny thing Leno ever did on his show was the Headlines segments, and those wrote themselves...

Gay is not an insult.
It is if you're straight and this has nothing to do with the man being homophobic or not.

I used to watch Leno on mondays when he did the news clippings piece and that was pretty funny. I even went saw him when he performed at the Red Robinson two Novemebers ago. Conan just doesn't cut it for me. He's fucking annoying!

So if I say "God that guy is so straight" because I think someone sucks, it's an insult if the person is gay? Being called gay when you're straight isn't an insult, it's just incorrect. I just don't see sexual orientation used as a negative thing to be all that tactful. I'm not going to break Tubman's law here, but a lot of people also use racial slurs as insults against white people.
Wishful thinking Missy. Don't try to apply logic to this sort of thing. An insult is an insult because of how it is commonly defined. If I say to someone "fuck you", I'm not really wishing that they have sex.

Oh, and Conan is cool. Leno was okay.

People on this site sure show their age by their likes and dislikes. It is such demographic cultures.

Almost all of you, are too young to remember Steve Allen or Jack Paar. Steve Allen was the predecessor to Carson and was one of the collaborators and first host of the "Tonght Show" which premiered in 1954.

Steve Allen was the king of the late night talk and mostly all that are on or have been on owe themselves to this talent extrodonaire.

Jack Paar was the next "Tonight Show" host and was a real razor wit and highly controversial. He also introduced Jim Henson, Kermit and the some other early Muppets. I remember one episode in the 60's where Jim Henson had taken an old utility closet and decorated the faucets and pipes with Muppet characters.

Then is the early 1980's Paar was on the David Letterman show when Letterman was still at NBC and Paar took Letterman and showed him the Muppet closet. It had not been opend to public viewing since the 60's episode. I remember seeing that particular Letterman episode and telling my nephew about the Muppet closet and two minutes later Paar was dragging Letterman and the camera crew to the famous room.

Whats an insult and whats a compliment is defined by the cultural norms of where you live. I'm sure you'd be insulted if a random person came up to you in the street and called you a whore regardless of the fact that you're an SP. There are also cultures where having pre-marital sex is considered no different than prostitution in its severity yet within our culture its considered perfectly acceptable. So calling someone here a lusty sinful person means nothing while doing so in Saudi Arabia would earn you a slap across the face.

It is what it is! We're not going to reinvent the wheel.

should have been

Conan isn't that bad. there's worst. Kimmel, Fallon and Daily are the most annoying host currently on air.
Seth Macfarlane of Family Guy fame would have been my choice.

In defense of hunsperger. I'm sure gay was referring to Conan's happy go lucky attitude. He is also entitled to think Leno is a good looking man.

After Carson left I never watched the Tonight Show.

Conan was at his best when Andy Ritcher was there and he has tailed off... ALOT. But I'd be far more likely to watch it with Leno gone.

This is a a stupid argument anyways as who would watch Letterman / Conan when we've got The Daily Show, the Colbert Report, and Craig Ferguson?

How the #$@% did jimmy Fallon get a show?
