Sorry to sound insensitive, but how could that compare?

One of my co-workers crossed way over the line and became physically threatening. He has done this many times in the past with other co-workers. The problem is, my employer won`t discipline him based on his belief that he may come back and do something similar.

I should have referenced this initially; Mea Culpa...

WOW!!
That guy is a Nut Bar.
When I got let go in the last week of November, I just kept my cool. Asked for 5-10 min to gather my things and left. I wasn't sure if my Lawyer was needed yet. It was a wrongful dismissal in my mind. I didn't ask questions because Why?? It's done - not going to change their minds right??
If you blow a head gasket it's hard to come back with a lawyer to prove your case. I ended up with 3 months pay $14,000 - I'm good with that.
Hard to find a new employer with a stigma like that attached to your work record!!!
You handled it well indeed. Personally I would have asked a few questions, not to try to change their minds (you're absolutely right that at that stage it's pretty much completely out of the question), but just for my own knowledge. Mind you, if asking questions might end up making you break your cool, then it's better not to ask anything anyway ;)
