Well I think this year has been a lackluster year (not as bad as the last 4 years) for movies but there were a few standouts that I saw.

So I have listed what I think are the best this year in order of my personal rating from 1st - 10th.

What are some good ones you've seen if not lised above?

I haven't seen all the movies but 300 was my personal favourite with Transformers a close second. Frank Miller has innovated the way films are made, they actually look like graphic novels come to life. Have heard Superbad is great but haven't seen it yet. What about Knocked up? Lmao!!!! Hilarious movie with lots of heart.

I really enjoyed American Gangster. Great movie Ridley Scott!

Knocked up was pretty funny and a good lesson for irresponsible men who need to get their shit together...reminds me of myself when I was 23, sans the knock up...well almost.

Lars and the Real Girl is my favourite for 2007. Ryan Gossling is proving to be a very fine actor, as was evidenced in Half Nelson (my favourite for 2006) and the movie was sustained primarily by the efforts of the actors involved. Pick it up if you haven't seen it yet.

This years a tough one, as there's still several movies I want to see coming out this month.

A few favorites...

Hot Fuzz (tied with Bourne as my favorite films of the year.)
The Bourne Ultimatum
Grindhouse *With the nod to Death Proof over Planet Terror
Live Free or Die Hard
Finishing the Game: The Search for a New Bruce Lee
Superbad
Blade Runner
No Country for Old Men

The worst movies of the year are a much easier bunch...

Spider-Man 3
Transformers

I'm sure there are many others but I only had the misfortune of the seeing the above two... (The F4 comes to mind...)

Looking forward to: Juno (I love Ellen Page), I Am Legend, City of Men, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story...

Blade Runner: Final Cut (Special Edition) was released last month for the films 25th Anniversary. And since I was "like 2" at the time
I wasn't able to put it on my top ten list then, so I doing it now...

Superbad would be my best pick followed by Ratatoulie (but i guess i'm the only one here that appreciates animation...)

To me Transformers was overrated. there were to many characters with hardly any character development. and where the character development was needed the most it was greatly lacking (i.e. the freaking transformers!) they overcomplicated a very simple plot, and had a love story that really wasn't moving at all.

but i guess the eye candy made up for all of that (i.e. special effects, megan fox and other hot chicks running around in slow motion.)

bleh give me some substance....

I am shocked noone has mentioned "Eastern Promises." I would say that and no country for old men were the best of the year by far. Haven't seen American Gangster but I would guess that it is up there too.

I really liked Live Free or Die Hard. That scene in the tunnel where they are (somehow) avoiding the cars was great. :)

Hot Rod

Well personally I thought Hot Rod was hilarious and was almost as funny and original as Napoleon Dynamite :) American Gangster would be my top Drama.

The Blade Runner final cut DVD was released on Tuesday. Along with various sets that include the previous cuts of the movie.

Of the movies mentioned so far, I loved Hot Fuzz and 300. I liked Stardust a lot (the DVD was released on Tuesday for those that haven't seen it yet). Grindhouse was a lot of fun (but I gotta give the nod to the Rodgriguez half, personally -- it seems to me that he just had a better grasp on what they were trying to do with that experience).

the_shogun mentioned Ratatoulie and I have to agree that it was great. If you're into anime at all, I would recommend checking out Paprika. That was released on DVD recently. It's certainly not without flaws but it's imaginative and visually interesting enough to deserve a viewing.

But one movie that nobody has mentioned yet that I really liked a lot this year was Sunshine. Should be on DVD in about a month and well worth a viewing to any sci-fi fans in the crowd. Honestly, this is one that was meant to be experienced in a movie theater and the visuals might lose some of the impact on a regular old TV but I would still recommend it.

I'm kind of amazed that "American Gangster" is getting such Oscar buzz and great reviews. Sure its got big stars (who turn in mediocre performances), a great story, which really had nothing to do with reality See :http://nymag.com/nymag/features/3649/ (bland and unoriginal... I mean if Goodfellas didn't win best picture this piece of crap certainly can), and made tonnes of money, all things considered...

But then Hollywood usually goes for the bland.

Sunshine was also great (glad you brought it up Mountain Man), though the ending really disappoints.

My fav film of 2007: No Country for Old Men.

others would be Once, Ratatouille, Eastern Promises, Waitress, Knocked Up, Hairspray, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, Away With Her, The Bourne Ultimatum.

Worst Film: Fantastic Four sequel.

the other crap film: Shrek 3

Finally managed to see Juno the other night and was quite impressed. Smart, witty, and well acted. (Plus a great soundtrack...) Ellen Page is terrific.

Michael Cera and Olivia Thirlby are great as well.
