Screen...

I have an odd sized door frame which I would like a screen. The area it would open into is very small so something sliding would be best. Any serious suggestions would be appreciated as all sorts of flying creatures are getting in...

call around to some window places... they often have a contact who
custom makes screens for unusual (and usual) sizes for them.

if you know how to measure then give them the dimensions
or they send a guy out to measure (adds to the cost) ...

buying something off the shelf may work, but custom will
fit what you have and work better.

what is the existing door?// is it wood , aluminum , slider or swing type?
if it is a aluminum frame slider then most places sell screen sliders that will snap in and slide. if it is a wood swing door now then maybe u can buy a wood screen door and cut it down to fit the size?
the existing door is aluminum as is the frame and swings inwards. The two slider doors I tried from Home Depot wouldn't fit due to the frames unusual size. Thanks for everyones suggestions, keep 'em coming.

Retractable screen door? Like this from Home depot: http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/...&recN=112206&N=0&Ntk=P_PartNumber&isMostPop=Y

I installed a similar roll sideways screen door a couple weeks ago. Not a difficult job, just took some time to follow directions and make cuts in aluminum frame. Works like a charm and takes up very little space when not in use. Was installed in a wood door frame. Came in models for swing out or in, left or right hinged main door.

Cost of the door: about $200 at Home Depot

Value of my time to install: Priceless ;)

Hi, Tess
can you give us a little more to go on when we are offering suggestions. What is the inside dimension of the door opening? Is the door frame wood or aluminum?

The height of the opening is 79.5" But the style of trim does not allow for mounting. The frame is aluminum as is the door
Perhaps putting a subframe of wood to the aluminum frame then mounting the door hardware to the subframe is your answer. Take some digital photos and bring them with you to Home Depot and they may be able to offer some suggestions and alternatives.

This is the real solution for this situation. Forget the do-it-yourself and get a custom pro to do the job. Maybe a few bucks more but guaranteed satisfaction with no frustratons and no troubles.
