when I said I was worried about the Canucks in the playoffs I got
my ass booted all over here by guys saying i was just a bandwagon
fan and that the Canucks would go all the way ...
now there're 3 threads and 33 posts saying the nucks are in trouble
and blah-blah-blah, whine-whine-whine and slow the bandwagon
so you can get off at the next stop ...
The Canucks are doing EXACTLY what they have been doing
all season long ... scoring one goal and going home when there's
still lots of time on the clock ...
Except now they are facing a team that is willing to give a hit and
take a hit to get the puck -- watch the nucks, they pass the puck
to avoid getting hit so its a lousy pass, it doesn't clear the zone
and Dallas jumps on the next guy and fights for possession ...
The Canucks are still trying to score from 75 feet and the boards! Instead
of having 5 feet of net to shoot at, those angles cut the net down
to five inches that Turco has to cover and from 75 feet away he
has lots of time to cover that space.
Finally, 'dump and chase' works fine in the regular season when
games really don't count ... now players have to be willing to
fight to gain the line and the nucks just don't have the size,
speed or skill to get past the 'trap' that Dallas puts up ... and
the nucks are afraid of the corners where Dallas is willing to
sacrifice their bodies for the puck.
I have said all season that Naslund has to go because he is
a chicken-shit leader who won't sacrifice for his team so his
team won't either. They don't get $6 million a year so if the
number one guy with the C on his chest won't do it , why should they?
I have never liked Modano ... but here's a guy who at least is willing
to try for his team ... they may still lose in game 7, but you can bet
that Mike and his team will not go down without a fight ...
the same can't be said for the Nucks and Naslund ...
