I've tried this before without much traction but wtf let's have a go at various sports items

I won't mention World Series as it's in another thread but...here's a few thoughts..

KC Chiefs last 6 seasons...6 AFC title games, 4 victories so 4 SB appearances 3 SB championships...does that make a dynasty?
Will Ovechkin pass Gretzky for most goals?this season?
can Oilers or Canucks get the Holy Grail this season?
can VA lead the Lions to the Grey Cup?

there are many other topics available.

what do you think of my suggestions and what are yours?

How about the Winnipeg Jets? Eight straight wins to kick off the season, and the only remaining undefeated team. Love to see them get ten in a row, but we'll see how the next few games pan out.

don't think the CFL has a huge following but playoffs begin this weekend.
skipping ahead I think it'll be Argos vs Bombers in the Grey Cup.

Argos qb Chad Kelly is a polarizing figure...doubt that you'd want him dating your daughter or sister but you might want him leading your team?
Bombers are veterans at this playoff business, looking for 5th straight appearance in the ultimate game.

Vancouver will have lots of activities/events in the days leading up, but I doubt the Lions will be part of the picture.
hope I'm wrong.

Back in the day, the Grey Cup was sure a sought after gig. The CFL has been in decline for years. Too bad - its still a good entertaining product even though it feels like college ball at times.

The hype will never match the rocket-like ascent of NFL hype, but whenever I try to watch the NFL, even playoffs, since I do not give a damn about hype, it is like 95%

Only the snobs seem to shun the CFL, mainly because they are only into watching the league with all the top $$$. (Like go back to your Taylor Swift soap opera team then.)

It is a bit like comparing the MLS to the Bundesliga, English Premier League, etc. - hype tends to go where the money goes, but we've got what we've got, so enjoy it as a sport first not as some celebrity parade.

I like the CFL and of course cheer for the Riders being from Saskatchewan. Don’t watch the NFL as a rule games can be boring in my opinion, The league was better years ago when Bo Jackson, Earl Campbell, Jim McMahon and those type guys were playing.

Hoping this season the Stanley Cup comes back to Canada after a 31 year drought.

Given the “Random Sports” title of this thread, I thought we were going to be talking about Jai Alai standinds, Axe Throwing champs, or Tiddly Wink trick shots….

I am dissappointed.

Thank you. Accepted.

For Jai Alai, I don’t care which player or team does it, but I love it when they return immediately with the big scoop constantly moving forward without any big predictable windup. A perfect line up against the wall is skillfull too.

Axe Throwing—well the tough part seems to be getting the rotation / speed dialed in just right. Seems harder than straight line and height in my experience. It’s not just distance to target.

Tiddly Winks: one TW master achieves amazing height on the Wink by slowly brushing the disk across the top of the Wink toward him and thrn snapping down hard just before pulling over the edge.

Breaking—Needs a judging criteria overhaul imho. The female olympian that won silver was robbed of a gold. Totally schooled the winner in terms of style, difficulty, athletics. Whatever the judges were looking for is fucked up if this event wants to earn any legitimacy as a sport. The trash attitude / lame intimidation element also has no place in the olympics; although formative in breaking emergence (as an alternative to a rumble), it detracts from a sport and is the antesis of what the olympics are about. Anyway, they can dial it in, but I still think it’s pretty boring after awhile.

Lions end their season in Regina.
what about those abominations Sask was wearing?did someone lose a bet?and I guess somebody was paid good money for that abortion of a creation?

I think the Kelly gang ride into Molson Stadium next week and ride out East champs(hope I'm wrong)
I think Bombers break the hearts of the banjo pickers and are West champs.

More predictions?

Jai Alai
Years back just outside of Mexico City a buddy wanted me to try my hand. 2 min and it was a hard NO. Raquetball, squash, all pales behind the pace and speed of that ball. I just figured right, I take one in the twins and my pooning days are done!!
Axe throwing
Can only be done effectively shirtless in the snow yelling loudly in Norwegian.
Open field lacrosse
Cardio a go go in that sport as well as being tough as hockey players.
Aussie rules football
Gees!!

forget where I saw this, maybe from Finland?
some tv show had a carry-your-wife race where guys would race while carrying wives. Most favored the over-the-shoulder style,
some did piggyback.
I'd've thought a guy would only enter if his ball-n-chain was a spinner but there were some queen-size entrants.
Have my doubts about it making the olympics, lol.

didn't see any of the breaking at the olympics but no surprise it's accompanied by trash talk, keep it true to the roots,I guess?

A buddy got me into the Celtic sports of Hurling (Ireland) and Shinty (Scotland) Think lacrosse on steroids with a kind of medieval club to propel the ball like a baseball bat instead of a dainty little basket on a stick. Add little regard for personal health and safety and jack shit for padding.

They're fucking mental and played by lunatics, but hugely entertaining.

I saw Hurling in Ireland. It’s gotta be the sport most likely to get your skull ctacked open. Cringy endorphin rush —and that’s the fan’s perspective! No whimps on that feild.

I love what Raygun did to it (not in it) during the Olympics. Aussies are great at satire. Ostrich-sized egg on the face Australian olympic organizers.

the Tyson-Paul "'boxing" match generated large crowds in the various pubs.I don't know how many (or if any) charged admission.
by all accounts it didn't bring back memories of Ali-Frazier.
the House of Jerry Jones somehow seems appropriate for a circus.

NFL Game of the Week, imo,is Bills-Chiefs Sunday avvo.I think the undefeated streak ends here.altho' they're 9-0 none of those wins have been easy.
seems like KC just finds a way to win, like good teams do,but probably not tomorrow?
I read something interesting...in recent yrs the Bills are 3-0 vs Chiefs in the regular season but 0-3 in the playoffs!
one thing for sure ..it'll have even more excitement than Tyson vs Paul!

Grey Cup tomorrow, Wpg heavy favs but the GC is no stranger to upsets.Seeing lots of CFL jerseys as fans arrive from across the country.
hope it's a good game and Wpg is Winnerpeg.

thoughts on these and more?

I miss GP motorcycle racing when all the bikes used 2 stroke engines, the good old days. Incidentally I saw recently at a Mecum auction a 1972 Kawasaki H2 sold for $50,000, crazy money for a 2 stroke bike of that era.
