The US president is not Angela Merkel, Pierre Trudeau or Boris Johnson. Security for the US president is more strict than for probably any other world leader. The Secret Service make the decisions on security. The President doesn't get the final word. At the time, the Yellow Vest protests were happening in France. As well, there were apparently threats made against Trump, Macron and perhaps others. The low ceiling and weather were deciding factors. The road route was nixed because of the impossibility of pre-checking and it could not be properly secured.
Trump spoke, in the rain, without an umbrella for almost an hour at an event the next day.
The only facts the Atlantic piece contains is about Trump's personal feud with McCain, cleverly slipped in as a subtle justification for the bogus anonymous allegations. Meanwhile ten WH staff, and former staff have come out and gone on record, as saying the story is fake. But hey, go ahead and keep spreading fake news. It just proves how desperate Democrats are, and continues to show how untrustworthy media has become.
