Unfriendly Neighbour

I watched this last night to about 18 episodes. I decided to read the comments. Act 3 about the sod, and what the neighbour does to it-- WOW.

The owner put plans in to build a driveway and with the city council approval build his driveway over public land (about 10/15 ft from the paved road to his own property line - and gravel up to the house on his property). So the owner improved public land between his land and the paved road to make his house and property look better.
So the land the neighbour is going over with his car, his running lawmoer etc is on public property. Where he is kicking the dirt and gravel is on public property. Where he drives his car in on public property.
Notice the rest of the rundown properties from the cameras.

The city eventually put the white steel stakes up to prevent the neighbour from driving over the public land. The chief of police told everyone they had to drive on the paved part of the road.

People when they commented don't bother to read or just are not well educated or just plain lazy because they keep saying the same things over and over again, or cant go find an answear for themselves...
The best comments were the ones on how to get back at the neighbour (like laying an trap on your property for him, stupid comments where the owners kids/family could also get hurt). How they would treat the neighbour. They don't know what the law is (as seen by he'd get a piece of my fist etc comments).

What are the neighbour (and his friends -who also live in area) motives to do vandalism to this guys driveway and grass he planted over public land?


Any lessons learned?

I work in residential construction, new builds and renovations.
The fact of the matter is some people simply can’t handle any sort of change.
Construction is noisy, disruptive and messy but the fact is every single house you see was built at some time. Neighbours were inconvenienced and trees were cut down etc.
It’s a fact of life.
I always say “The house you live in also had to be built at one time! It didn’t fall from the sky and land quietly like a feather!”

I always chuckle when people bitch and complain wanting the project done and over with, then turn around and do things that slow the project down! Things like complaining about sub-trades parking on the street in front of their houses. It’s like “Ok! We’ll get the guys to park 3 miles away and walk back and forth to get tools etc! Yup makes perfect sense!”

I even had a lady ask me “Can’t your trades carpool???”
So the electrician is supposed to drive over to the plumber’s house, load all his tools and equipment into the plumbers van every morning, then drive in together? Makes sense to me!

All of this and a whole lot more!
People just don't get it that contractors and tradesmen service more than one jobsite and need a vehicle to move between projects.
Most trades live in the 'burbs and are required to commute throughout all the municipalities.
Car pooling does happen but mostly it is not realistic for most workers in the construction industry.

Even though the addition was put on the back of the property, the city made them put an orange mesh temporary construction fence around the city planted tree in their front yard (which is dumb btw). One of our other neighbours anonymously tucked a note under their mat, complaining about what an eye sore the fence was. Our neighbour responded by taking that letter and his response and posting it to our neighbourhood mailbox. He politely explained the situation and basically called them chickenshits. As mentioned before, people don't really care about the bigger picture or about other people's circumstances, just as long as they aren't offended or inconvenienced in any kind of way. If they are, they raise hell but if they do it, you have to be understanding.

There are no "simple replies" to the butt-hurt masses that are never satisfied and have no concept of the complexities of construction, City permitting and the like.
That is, until a water main bursts and the isolation valves shut off their property- then it's balls to the wall and fuck everybody else in the neighbourhood until their personal service is restored.

Okay, I take back what I said and suggest that the note be taken to a friend for support in case something more comes of it, and not say anything at all to the writer of the note.
