I had a session at EB recently and my lovely masseuse was telling me that she heard from a cop that escorts are legal in Manitoba as of January. Apparently EB is able to advertise escort services on their website.
I'm sure she wasn't lying to me but I wonder if maybe she misunderstood what she was told? Does anyone have the "official" status on escort services in MB?
Thx

As far as I know "escorting" has been legal for a long time. Hiring an escort, however, is illegal. It's like radar detectors in Manitoba (if this still applies); it is legal to sell them, it is illegal to use them. What still surprises me is brothels as far as I know are legal in Ontario. Why hasn't somebody opened one in Kenora? Sure a lot of Wpg guys would take the trip.

Don't get legal advice from an MP attendant.
The city may move escorts to a lower priority of enforcement like Vancouver. That does not mean they are legal or illegal.
Police and Crown have a lot of discretion on this and it can change completely after a city council or police board meeting.
As for brothels in Ontario being legal: being found in a bawdy house is still in the Criminal Code.
Ottawa makes the laws, not the provinces.

I wasn't quite sure what to make of it which is why I thought I'd ask. I wonder if the law on this is provincial or federal? I'm not asking my lawyer :p
It's federal as WestWoody said. Today, it is still illegal to purchase sexual services, and to communicate for the purposes of those services. If youth could be expected to be in the vicinity, it is illegal to sell sexual services. It is illegal to advertise sexual services, and managerial relationships are illegal, too (read: "pimps" and "madams").

Escort service does not mean sexual services So yes escort services without sex are legal
using and providing escort services is completely legal You can pay a woman $300 to show up at your home or hotel ask you for more money. Then scream at you If you suggest that she provide sexual services ( which is prostitution which is not legal ) and leave after about ten min . Amy and Annie As well as other escort services send people out to provide this type of service all the time . A escort service that provides no sexual services of any kind is legal Just because a woman shows up at your house or hotel calling herself an escort does not mean she is selling sex.

That's absolutely true - escorting does not mean sexual services are being offered.

Try telling a judge that you paid a woman from backpage $300 for a social, non sexual visit.

Especially if her ad specifies sexual services and/or she has reviews regarding things like bj/fs/whatever.
