Should I make the switch?

I would be purchasing the phone outright.

And who is the best provider in terms of minutes & data?
I went back to apple with an iphone 5 after I gave up on my s3's horrible battery life. I still think the screen is too small.

I would pick a provider based on coverage more than anything, plans are the same everywhere pretty much.

Yes, I agree coverage is a deal breaker, but I need unlimited minutes. Who else besides Virgin offers unlimited minutes?

I've been an iPhone user for years and have no intention of switching to an Android phone. The big screens don't interest me and my iPhone just works for what I want it to do.

As for if you should make the switch? That's a pretty subjective question and I think we'd need to know a lot more about what you want your phone to do before anyone could give a good answer. Also, what are you switching from?

Galaxy -> Apple.

1. Which I learned in another thread, Apple has good warranty. I need that. I need to walk in with a broken one and walk out with a new one.

AppleCare is a major point that I think a lot of people discount. Especially AppleCare+ where you can drop it in a pool and they'll replace it. Easily worth the extra money for a phone I'm going to be using for years.

coverage... just in the lower mainland, or in the interior of bc as well (including northern)?

if it's just the lower mainland then listen to the people that have plans for here. but if you want coverage in the interior, especially northern, then the best coverage is telus (or bell, who operate off the same towers). van island i don't know about

my bell plan has unlimited minutes in canada for $78/mo plus markups

i need lower mainland and island coverage, definitely.

Where Virgin is scammin me is on my data. If i forget to turn the mobile data off, even if the icon shows i am on wifi, it still charges me for data.
Isn't that funny. its supposed to be a smartphone but it cannot tell when I am NOT using the internet....hmmmmmm.....

Rogers coverage is pretty good except along the Skytrain line. For whatever reason I lose signal all over the place when I really shouldn't.

See and I have that same problem right now with Virgin on the Skytrian; however, I see Telus advertising that they are available everywhere on transit.

Lots of stuff still runs in the background and can use up your data plan. I think that's less of a problem on iPhones than Android phones due to the differences in the platforms.

edit: Also I've heard that Android can be pretty bad at handing off connections from 3G/LTE to Wifi so that might explain why you're still getting data plan usage while you're on Wifi.

You should not get charged against your data plan for traffic that goes over Wifi. If it did I'd always be over my data plan and I never am.

sounds reasonable... i don't really use that much data, and when i do it's almost always on wifi

Try telling that to Virgin! Last month the CSR gave me as $100 credit for going "over" my data. They keep telling me to turn it off when I get to wi fi.

That's really unusual. Like I posted earlier, I can only guess that your phone is not handing off data connections when you switch to Wifi. It shouldn't be working like that :(

Well I'm not so sure that it's Virgin that's the problem so much as it is the phone.

To be honest if you're shopping carriers it's best to play them against each other. It probably won't work but you might be able to get one of them to give you a better deal in the interest of winning the customer. It can't hurt to try :)

It usually does work in my experience, they usually magically have promo plans at the same time and if you go with a small business account they are more willing to bring out those plans you get when you call retentions.

i love galaxy's! my favorite being the 3s. i just bought another iphone today and i really dont like; them i miss my galaxy.
with the galaxy, though, you must go into settings and disable data as it does rack up with preinstalled background apps.

the only other annoyance i've had with the galaxy is sending/receiving picture messages. you MUST have data enabled BEFORE the message comes in or you will not be able to open it~

and dont even bother with the BBq10
i miss my GALAXY S3 (also preferable over the s4 according to friends that upgraded and wished they hadn;t)
