Worked as a concierge on Christmas Day ( 8 hours ) in one of the apartment complexes in Yaletown/False Creek. Bored as hell, one patron asked for tickets for Aquabus, which was not operating that day. I received a Christmas bonus of $50 but no overtime for that day as it was a part-time job. Has anyone here worked Christmas Day: any stories?

One Christmas in Calgary I worked. I got laid, had a smoke, and left when our time was up. Funny I didn't get a tip either, but my bonus was getting paid to cum ~GRINS~

Worked 5 years in a hotel in Banff. In tourism everyone works Christmas day. Stories are tame compared to nye or the weekend every year the sex conference came to our hotel (I'd catch those bastards screwing all over the hotel "uh excuse me". "wait I'm almost done". "noooooo you're done now, you realize I'm going to have to make some poor sap clean that right!?!").

The day my industry starts opening on Christmas Day, is the day I leave the industry, whether or not my plan B is going strong yet or not. In the past few years we've started opening Boxing Day and New Years Day, and I do not approve!

That being said, I did one year, at my previous employer, taking down the decorations.

I met some guy looking for some garlic sausge on christmas morning, some lonely old guy.
And another christmas, some guy sort of scary told me stories of torture in Ecuador.

Usually do...right now I've been working everyday since the 14th and will be working daily til the 27th. Right now I have two days off 28th and 29th and then I'm on the go again till Jan. 5th. Mind you, that can change and those days can disappear real quick.

Yes and thanks to those in the service industry and the numerous volunteers.
Many years ago, I use to work Christmas Eve and right into the morning of Christmas Day. Mind you, it was my own company and I enjoyed working when all was quiet except for the sound of canned Christmas tunes echoing from the main boardroom's sound system. There were always leftover gourmet gift baskets from suppliers which were shared with the late night custodians. In addition to their food haul, I usually gave each of them a little cash bonus ($50) as a token of appreciation.

This year, I'll be working Christmas Eve again but not into the wee hours... I'm too old for that now. Maybe until 1am max.

Peace to all.

My last couple years during Christmas here I worked either at a soup kitchen or went around with my ex in his car with a big bag full of clothing and canned foods wrapped in shiny gift paper... it was fun .. till Christmas of 2010 we got robbed by a crackhead lol ... To be completely honest doing all that was not altruistic at all ... it was so that I was around people who were hungry and lonely on a day where everyone should be with family and friends... anyhow this will be my first year working on Christmas day as its also my first year as an SP. Christmas is a lonely time for me with no family here and friends gone back to their home countries or vacations to exotic places... I am actually excited to work this Christmas... is that a little bit sad ? lol

Always worked Xmas day and all the stats when I worked in the Emergency at the local Hospital (for 17 years). Ppl get sick and hurt every day/night of the year. At least then I had an excuse to ignore 'the holidays', now I just blatantly ignore them.

Back in college I worked a few graveyard shifts at a gas station over Christmas night. It was usually deserted - maybe one or two people would come in, and be amazed that someone was there. I got a lot of cleaning done those nights, anyhow.

New Years Eve was far more entertaining to do graveyards... people would occasionally tip in beers.

How the f*ck did you get robbed by a crackhead ?
well the crackhead wanted everything we had in our bag or he was threatening to prick me with a needle he had in his hand and he had already grabbed my hand .... so needless to say we dropped everything and left ... we were smart not to be carrying our wallets or phones .. he made my ex empty his pockets and made him empty mine as well ... we just wanted to get away from there... didnt know and didnt care if his threats were hollow or not but whatever was in the bag wasn't worth the risk

we were by keefer st and not being from Vancouver I think we ventured a little too near east hastings without knowing ... well never again
