I recall watching a news program where prior to the whole airport gong show, Robinson's former supervisor at the RCMP had strongly recommended against his being promoted from constable. He was overruled, and Robinson made corporal. While this might be partially an "affirmative action" thing, his three colleagues at the airport did not actually behave any better during or after the incident. Robinson's actions after the accident were clearly aimed at avoiding an impaired driving charge.

and let's not forget: on PAID leave with full benefits and pension for the PAST FOUR years......no where else do you get to deal with your "depression and history of family alcohol abuse" at home with full pay....being a role model for his children no doubt to continue the cycle

When this is all over whether he's convicted or acquitted, will this guy still be able to keep his job?

DavidMR I have read your posts in this thread and in the skateboarder thread. I have to ask these questions:

If you were on the bus when the skateboarder went nuts, would you still feel sympathy towards the skateboarder? (I am assuming you did view the video posted by the VPD afterwards)

If your son had been tasered to death at the airport would you still feel sympathy towards this RCMP officer?

If your other son had been run over by the same RCMP whilst impaired would you still feel sympathy towards this officer?

Would you prefer a "healing circle" rather than traditional justice system for this officer because in your world is having two sets of justice systems is ok?

This is what affirmative action brings to us now and we have to bite our collective lips and live with it.

I am betting Robinson keeps his job because that is the type of society we have now. Hell, he will probably get promoted to keep him away from the public.

I've got a question or two for you. When do think it's OKay for Aboriginals or other minorities or women to have jobs in police and fire departments? Who do you think has a right to sue the police if they're injured during an arrest?

No, certainly not. If he's convicted of an offence like this he will be dismissed. It would be different perhaps with a lesser matter, say one episode of hunting out of season or something.

It's sort of strange how many people are worried about this guy's salary costs, when they aren't concerned that Dave Basi and Bob Virk got $6 million in legal fees paid for by the Crown AFTER THEY PLEAD GUILTY.

It's very, very unusual for that kind of background personnel material to emerge, whether in private industry or public service. I really wonder how that kind of reference information got into the media. Do you ever hear that someone at the bank who's just been sent away for embezzlement was promoted by management despite objections from an immediate colleague?

A completely different matter all together. These two guys weren't involved in the actions that led to the deaths of two people, where "Monty" is, and we're not talking about Basi and Virk, nor are we talking about the rest of the BC Rail scandal/cover up, as it has nothing at all to do with Robinson and him causing death while driving his Jeep drunk, and then running off to do a couple more shots before returning to the scene....two different cases, two different situations.

Robinson ought to not be on paid leave while facing these charges. In my opinion, in light of the tazering at the airport where he was senior officer on the scene, his participation in an attemped cover up of that horrible event....he ought to have been suspended from the force w/o pay, put behind bars in pre-trial and held until the court date. Native or not, he's an RCMP corporal who oughtr to be held to a higher standard than the rest of us...not only that, but he's also been heard talking on how to get out of a situation just like what he's gotten himself into.

Alcoholic or not, there's no excuse at all for driving undr the influence, especially for a law enforcement officer. It's utter bullshit.

I think you meant 'Are'...and yes, women and other minorites should be able to get employment with emergency services, as responders to emergency sitiuations, 'natives' too. Who do you think has a right to sue the police if they're injured during an arrest? Everyone who has suffered undue damages to life, limb and liberty, not to mention property. In fact, if Robinson is found guilty, the family of the victim ought to sue his ass off, but not sue the RCMP as he wasn't on duty, and driving around Richmond drunk on his own time.

Anybody who is qualified regardless of race, place of origin, sexual orientation or gender. The numbers game is what I have a problem with in our society

Anyone can sue even if they were observed on video being an idiot too.
