War with Iran this year

I think there will be war with Iran this year, and I mean full scale war.

Iran won't back down, and already talk of cutting off oil to Europe because of sanctions.

A presidential election coming and Obama has been accused in the past of being a pussy, so now he has to look tough especially now that Republicans are going to be screaming for war right after electing either Romney or Gingrich.

The Israelis are up to their usual conniving ways, with assassinations of Iranian scientists. Just like the Gulf of Potemkin incident (and others more recent), they'll false flag it again - probably attack an American warship or cut off the pipeline themselves. Of all the countries involved, they're the only one that wants war and they want it badly.

Yeah, Obama is gonna make a show of actually having balls and play to the war hawks. He doesn't want a repeat of 1980

Israel, not an issue, man some people just want to see jews behind everything/everywhere. True, they'd like the usa to take out Iran, but will do it themselves if they feel threatened. Hell so would I, if I felt somebody was out to nail me...

However, if it is Israel doing the work, it will only be the nuke plants and possibly the air defenses left in a smoking crater

But full scale war is not required. If the usa is doing the work, it will be more tactical in nature, the Iranian navy will be gone, the air force too, nuke plants will receive the new generation of bunker busters, air defense systems/radar: gone, there are some neat bombs that can destroy the electrical grid, no need to invade anymore with precision weapons, so the Iranian army is sol (just like Iraqi army)

Iran is playing a dangerous game threatening to block the international waters of the straight. Look what happened to Iraq when they played that game

There won't be a war, as neither the US nor Iran is in a position to benefit. The US wants to recover it's economy, and focus on containing/countering China. Iran realizes that a war with the US would end their regime. Evidence being Iraq (which had the 4th largest army in the world before the 1st Gulf war), and the Arab Spring, which showed them revolution is right at their doorstep.

The bulk of the US general staff does not want a war with Iran because they know that it would be easy to start a war with Iran but near impossible to successfully resolve it. A lot of intelligent Israelis know this too. The minute the shooting starts say goodbye to shipping oil out of the Persian gulf for the foreseeable future.

Iranians are beautiful people. I wish they had the ability to over throw the government there, very sad situation.

Damn right they are, look at the one McKay married.........yummy. I think the time is coming, probably a lot closer then some people think when the current government will be tossed. I've had a number of friends here that have gone back or are in the process of going back, as in moving, not just visiting. There may be sanctions in place, but people are still living a decent life, just don't piss off the Government. The Iranians are well educated, they know what's out in the world and they want their piece of the pie. Most are still getting it, when that stops happening the lid will come off.

Peaceguy, for a fellow who seems so well versed in military matters, you missed an important point. Sonar is not the only way you can detect a sub. In any kind of water, anti-submarine forces also use MAD, magnetic anomaly detection, to locate subs. Submarine detection techniques have progressed more quickly than avoidance techniques. And once ASROC's are fired at the sub, they can be guided via the MAD contact rather than sonar. Once within range, the torpedo's sonar then takes over and that's all she wrote for the diesel sub.

Completely disagree, there won't be any conflict with Iran this year other than economics sanction, soft diplomacy and some covert ops. Iran is just playing the game the North Koreans has been playing for years. Obama would rather come off as a pussy than the biggest hypocrite.
