Republicans all have that similar attitude that what happened in the past was the right thing and they would do it that way all over again. NO acknowledgement that there were no WMD as a reason to go to war. They will just say so what, Saddam had to go.

Thats kind of funny, because most people looking back would disagree with him.

Sure, Saddam is gone, but look at how many lives it cost. I am not talking about the Americans themselves. They measure the human "cost" of war solely in terms of American lives - those dead on the other side don't count, since they regard those folk as subhuman, especially if they are not "civilized" (in other words European). Rumsfeld might feel that the world is a better place without Saddam, and he would be right, but in all probability the Iraqi people would have likely have gotten rid of him themselves by now anyway, so what did America achieve? They have virtually bankrupted themselves, lost immense political capital, likely grown a new generation of extremists and all to reach a situation that would probably be in more or less the same place even if they had done nothing. From a military point of view what they did in overthrowing the Taliban in Afganistan after 9/11 is what they should have been doing in Iraq (and they sort of were doing that anyway), and allow local forces to do the hard part. Invading Iraq (and staying in Afganistan for that matter) were major military blunders.

but why did so many people believe him,
if you said any thing againest the war, holy shit people would have strong you up and hang you from the higest tree, way back when this was going on.


its funny but you think leaders lead.
but in a sense they do, but they don't,
they need people that want to follow them
there has to be a will to follow and believe

if hitler was the only one that hated the jews, well the world would be a different place.

if gandhi the people didn't believe him, well.

so my point is its easy to blame bush rummy chenny and company,
but that is very very over simplicitic

I was not reticent about sharing my beliefs at the time -- here in Canada. I worked in Arkansas for a while back then, and I didn't feel the need to share my opinions there....

And you are right -- it was ultimately the peoples' fault, but history has shown time and again how easy it is to rile up the population in disturbing ways when you create an enemy to focus on.
