How and why did the ridiculous pricing in reviews like seven greens and a purple or even stupider $.5 ever start?

What's wrong with posting an actual amount - $150?

I don't think it's fooling LE even if they cared.

I totally agree. I always just state the price in plain language in my reviews. I hate the confusing decimals, and WTF is a Jade Canoe?

I think the practice was started by someone who thought prostitution was illegal in Canada, as it is in the USA. On the American boards, it's common for reviewers to refer to Jacksons, Jeffersons, Hamiltons, etc., as if that would fool LE. The reds, greens, etc. are likely a Canadian equivalent to the presidents. Whatever the history, it's just plain stupid.

i thnink its a cultural thing. westerners are used to the ten-based decimal system of money originally derived from the arabic numeral system. other cultures string symbols together, the symbol '$' = 100 dollars. following that with a decimal point indicates that a multiple of ten dollars is about to follow. thusly $.4 = 140 dollars or $$$.5 = 350 dollars. sort of like having an abacus tallying up amounts

similarly with stringing together the symbolic colours of the bills

i used to think the practice was rather abhorrent as well, but now i've resigned myself with some sadness to this polyglot of multi-culturalism with which we've ended up

Maybe it's the equivalent to a secret handshake.
LOL.. perb members should adopt a secret handshake
