I have yet to be disappointed by a Zach Snyder movie, so I'm really looking forward to this one!

Six Character Posters from Zack Snyder's 'Sucker Punch'
Young twenty-somethings with guns and lingerie should turn a few heads

Zack Snyder's upcoming World War I fantasy actioner Sucker Punch has made a bit of noise around the net recently as some magazine scans started making the rounds, but today Warner Bros. released six character banners from the film and has launched the official website giving fans a closer look at a film that looks to be a bit of a wild ride.

Set in the 1950s, Sucker Punch follows Babydoll (Emily Browning) who is confined to a mental institution by her stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out before she is deflowered by a vile man. Along with Browning the film stars Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino and Jon Hamm.

Sucker Punch was originally expected to be another post-conversion 2D-to-3D feature, but in a recent interview Snyder seemed to backtrack a little tellin gMTV, "They've talked about doing a conversion and there's been a lot of talk about us doing ‘Sucker Punch' in 3-D, but I'm still waiting to see."

He added, "We've looked at a bunch of conversions, so whether or not we have the time to do it right – I'm not going to do it if we don't have the time to really be meticulous with it. It's such an awesome piece of work and everyone's worked so hard to make it awesome, so I don't want to screw it up with bad 3-D."

The film is set for a March 25, 2011 release.
The posters were kind of big, so I've posted thumbnails below. Click them for the larger images.

I've been disappointed with Snyder's last two films (300 and The Watchmen) since his remake of Dawn of the Dead, so hopefully he will be able to turn things around. I also wish the castng would have turned out as Snyder initially wanted with Amanda Seyfried (and not Browing) as "Baby Doll" and Emma Stone (and not Chung) as "Amber".

Sucker Punch Ball

This event at The Rio looks like it could be a lot of fun! But I kind of want to watch the movie in IMAX. :D

...and the reviews are pretty terrible. Even my favourite horror movie reviewer at Horror.com hated it (and she loved Drive Angry and Sharktopus). Too bad, I'll be waiting for video.

Might be worth a view especially on IMAX. I find films like this are disappointing when seen on my small 46" TV :D and need to be experienced on a really big screen.

MM doesn't exactly go for critically acclaimed movies :p
In the words of Clarence Worley in True Romance:

“You know, Lee, most of these movies that win a lot of Oscars, I can’t stand. They’re all safe, geriatric, coffee-table dogshit, y’know? All those assholes make are unwatchable movies from unreadable books. Mad Max -- that’s a movie! The Good, The Bad and the Ugly -- THAT’S a movie! Rio Bravo -- THAT’S a movie!”

The truth is, in general, I'm an easy audience. I just like movies in general and can usually find something to like in even the worst movies. Sometimes, I like bad movies because they can be fun. But I willingly admit that I really enjoy style and I'm totally happy with style over substance. Of course, I love style and substance. Blade Runner is a great example of that as was Watchmen, in my opinion. I even enjoy style disguised as substance like the Matrix movies :p . The only thing I hope for is to be entertained and I do find visual creativity quite entertaining. (Although I do admit that despite the visuals, I was quite disappointed with Avatar since I found it so derivative of so many other sources and therefore I just didn't find it at all engaging).

Anyway, I haven't watched Sucker Punch yet but I'm still really looking forward to an IMAX show of it as soon as I get a chance to watch it.

I have to admit that I've never seen Ishtar. But I did sit through the 3 hour Pendragon Pictures version of War of the Worlds. If I can get through that, I'm pretty sure I could get through Ishtar. :D

Very True.....I now sentence MM to watch The English Patient, to show you what he means ;)
I saw it years ago. You might enjoy this quote/reference to it from the Michael Madsen TV series, Vengeance Unlimited, from the late 90's:

Colonel [Remembering his time in El Salvador]: Have you ever been beaten half to death by wooden rakes?
Mr. Chapel: I sat through "The English Patient" once.

(I have to admit that I didn't think it was that torturous) :p

Just saw it, I liked it. Pretty straight foward script.
Some very trippy scenes, I liked all the WWI stuff.

Cool soundtrack, but that bjork song is one of my favs
