So, about a week ago, I performed DFK and DATY, during the week, the tip of my tongue started feeling kind of sore...like if I had burnt it or something.

It's a little redder on the tip than the surrounding area and it looks like some of the taste buds or whatever are a little raised and white tipped at the end. Is this anything I should be getting checked out? I also started eating cinnamon gum (the hot kind) the last few days, so I wonder if maybe that was what caused it?

Mr. Boggo, did you discontinue chewing the hot cinnamon gum as of yet? If not, please do and report back in a few days if you would?

Phew, it was just the cinnamon gum. I stopped chewing for a few days and all seems well...damn, and I liked that stuff too.

Hi Mr Boggo

It is really hard to diagnose conditions over the internet as we would need to see it, but I can give you some suggestions.

From what you describe it sounds like something has burnt or irritated the tip of your tongue.

In regard to sexually transmitted infections, the herpes simplex virus (HSV) can be on the tongue.

There is also many different things that can explain this like certain types of food or drink. It is possible the gum could be causing the problem.

As already mentioned I would suggest having a break from the cinnamon gum and seeing what happens. As it sounds like you are concerned about the DFK and DATY it may be a good idea to come to the clinic for a test. The health person would be able to look at it and give you a check up at the same visit.

As most STI do not have symptoms we always recommened that people go for a checkup every so often.

Hi Mr Boggo

It certainly sounds like the gum was the problem. After doing a quick search I was surprised how often cinnamon gum has caused peoples mouths to be irritated.

Thanks for the reply HN. While I'm glad it seems to just be the gum, I do think it's not a bad idea to get tested every now and again for peace of mind. I've never gone for a test before, not even sure where to go. Can I just walk into any medi clinic or are their specific ones in Edmonton? How is the discretion, IE do I give my real name and disclose partners and such?

Hi Mr Boggo

You can visit any doctor or walk in clinic for testing. You just need to make sure that they include all the tests. Here is a link for information on what tests should be included.

When testing at these clinics you will generally use your real name as you will use your health insurance. All information you give to them about sexual history and partners must remain confidential. Just give the information you feel comfortable with, but enough so they know to test you. It is common that I see guys that just say they are having sex with casual partners.

Last I heard this is a free clinic so you do not need to use your real name when registering. They would know what tests to do.
