I would have thought Thailand, but at number 10 it almost doesn't make it on the chart. Surprising results, but they don't show their data source.

Prostitution is illegal in China but has been relegated to the status of a misdemeanor. Some researchers have conservatively estimated that there are as many as 10 million active prostitutes in China at any given time who contribute as much as five percent to the country’s annual GDP as most of the earned income, although not taxed, goes back into the economy through consumption.

I remember talking about this with a SP once and she figured with all the high rents in Vancouver vs low paying jobs that at least one in twenty women are supplementing their incomes with rental helpers.

That sounds like an overestimate to me, that would mean that there are 60,000 sex workers in Vancouver alone?

This appears to be the data source. Surprisingly no stats for Canada (and a lot of other places)
