I can't believe it. Aftwer waiting 5 years DSL is finally available in my area.

I now need to get a good anti virus product before I connect. I know that many perperts are IT experts and would like your opinion as to the best one.

Thanks,

DWB

Freddy did a good job of listing the available choices... well ALMOST all the choices.. here is what I would do (note these are personal preferences and like beauty eaach person has their own opinion)

Firewall (arguably the most important)
I like Hardare based say Linksys or if you are a geek and kinda paranoid and have more $$ Cisco PIX501 ..

Antivirus
Norton

Spyware
Ad Aware

Popup stopper/cookies
Ok going out on a limb I use Firebird Beta as a browser, it is the latest from Mozilla and it includes good popup and cookie control... it is still beta however.

I use AVG virus protection. It's always served me well. There is a freeware version on Grisoft's web site. I'm sure Freddy will agree that the firewall in XP is pretty weak but I suppose it's better than nothing. Oberon's right on with the Cisco. Great product but pretty expensive. One thing not mentioned, the application of common sense.

In IE use the Google tool bar for pop ups, works excellent.

Ditto on Norton AV. Hasn't let me down.

McAffee firewall is a good one too, the one I use. As soon as I get around to bother putting it back in. :)

Also suggest in IE grab a little program called IESPELL for posting on this and all other forums. Great little spell checker. Only works in IE.

PS: If your like me and in 2003 you downloaded almost 400gigs (which I didn't think was to much) expect your ISP to be giving you nasty phone calls. :)

Yep yep yep .. If I had a dollar for every person with a six figure salary that told me "yes I just clicked on it" .... duh...

Common sense and a wee bit of paranoia goes a long way (in a lot of things)

I subscribe to McAfee on-line...it's great for an "always on" connection. That way I never have to worry about updating, because it updates automatically, and the subscription just rolls over, so you never have to worry about upgrades or reloading the program from a disk.

I use the Firewall, Virus Checker, and SpamKiller. They all work fine, as I have never had a virus.
