IMHO. I just read in the WSJ that Vancouver now has 5 Papa Murphy's Take and Bake Pizza outlets. Same owner (franchise, with plans for about 8 more in the area.)

I have had some pretty good pizza in Vancouver, but I place PM's only a little above the 99 cent places that are all over town.

Prepare yourselves for the deluge of coupons in the mail and newspapers, not that there is anything wrong with that.

No worries. I order takeout pizza, maybe, once a year now.

Ever since I discovered how amazing home made pizza can be once you use a pizza stone.

I bake my own bread, make it on the weekend. I just make some pizza dough at the same time, and pop a ball of it in the freezer. When I decide I want to make pizza, take out a ball of dough, let it thaw, roll it out, let it rise, and pop it in the oven with some fresh tomato sauce and toppings.

Awesome results.

your mom says hi.
hmmmm, i thought vancouver was already not that great for pizza. its a great place for sushi, dim sum and fine dinning to a degree but i always found toronto or montreal to be far superior when it came to pizza anyway.

here i always order domino's which in toronto would have been sacrilege but here it seems to be the best option for whats out there. if i am wrong and people here know a good mom and pop type place that is actually run by italians or greeks let me know.

How would the Olympic committee feel if they covered their emblem up w/ the sign

THIS ESTABLISHMENT WAS CENSORED ON BEHALF OF THE CANADIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE IN VIOLATION OF THE CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS
(The small company always gets bullied and doesn't have the money to fight back)

Smackyo:

The good thing about Papa Murphy's is that you take it home and bake it yourself. None of that rushing home with a hot pizza in a cardboard box. Pizza is always best fresh out of the oven.

Odd thing about these places: They have no ovens.

Sounds like something Kramer would do :)

If there is a Roundtable Pizza near you, I suggest you try them.

Um, as a pizza delivery driver, I find this thread offensive, please delete it moderators. :p

Seriously though, its a smoking hot day in the middle of August. You want to climb into your hot car, drive to the busy mall, wait in line at the cashier(actually not much wait, theres a PM next to Rogers in Burnaby and the place is always dead :D )get back in the hot car, drive home, turn on the oven in the middle of the summer, and bake your pizza. Or have it delivered hot and fresh to your door?

Are you insane?!?! OK, just pick ANYTHING other than domino's and it will be better. You can't do worse! That said I don't have any strong recommendations, I'm looking for something more interesting than the typical pizza hut and panago, earls, etc., myself (which are still much better than domino's). Myself I want a classic really greasy pizza, that is what I miss, most pizza is yuppie style these days.

15 or more years ago I think pizza was in much better shape in Vancouver as there were a lot of mom and pop italian/greek joints. But over time they have been replaced by chinese and sushi restaurants (I'm thinking Richmond here) and it's mostly just chains like Bella pizza and panago left. Nothing wrong with sushi as I like it too, but I think pizza has taken a hit from it.

Screw those name brand pizza places. You get great deals on two-for-one's family pizza shops run by east Indians all over southeast Vancouver. Check out Victoria, Fraser, and Main from East 57th to 33rd.

Papa's Gourmet Pizza on Main near 14th is a great place to grab a couple of slices - I favour the greek and the vegie.

The best Pizza i've ever eaten was back in the mid 80's at Bella Pizza on Denman. That place is gone but Bella Pizza is still around with some of the original owners of the Denman one. One on Homer and the other on Hemlock.

I can get away with eating a variety of pizza with the wife and she quite enjoys it. It doesn't go over so well when I want to eat a variety of pus... oh never mind... but that's my excuse for reviewing pizza more often than SPs...

I've had very good pizza at:
Incendios in Gastown, they also have an outlet at the Fifth Ave Theatre.
Pizza From Hell (Hell's Kitchen, 2041 West 4th);
Lombardo's (1641 Commercial, they've just opened near Paramount Theatre DT as well)
Hudson's Landing Pub (1041 SW Marine Drive) was surprisingly good considering the venue.

WTF is wrong with Papa Murphy's? I've been ordering from them for *years* (in the US) and have nothing but great things to say about them. Take and bake is a nice scheme for those who want something close to home-made but more convenient.

Fuzzy

Sorry, but don't bitch to me about prices. 99 cent pizza here costs $3 per slice. Not bad if you like only cheese on top. Others are extra.

Come to SF, stay at a downtown hotel, pay who knows what for a room, then pay another $40 just to park your car at the same hotel. Oh, do not forgot the tip for the Valet parking.

Price is in the eyes of the beholder. Vancouver can be very inexpensive for some, not so for others.

$5 hour meters seem cheap to me. Sorry, again.

please no one take this the wrong way but i've had a pizza from more then one "indian" owned place and i've like maybe two of them out of about 20. you are right that you get a great price but the pizza is very left to be desired in my opinion.

the one exception would be when i lived in richmond and there was a place on 3 road called pizza express i think? they were pretty good.
