Still lost in the '60s
U.S. Congressman Foley was in his office when he was summoned to vote on an important bill.

"I'll be right there," he said, "as soon as I get to the bottom of this page."

Foley is no doubt a congressman who carefully looks over each page from top to bottom!

It just shows to go ya, you never know how some sick fuck is going to disguise himself so he can take advantage of the young people in our society,

This is the guy who championed a bill to protect young people from guys like him.

I am not sure what he did was illegal, but I am damm sure he does not belong in the US Congress

I don't know all the details about this but something seems fishy about this story due to the timing. As I believe the US are going to be having elections soon. This wouldn't be the first time such dirty laundry has been made public to win votes.

You're bang on. In their attempts to counter the Democrats some of the Republicans are crying that their opponents are doing this because the mid term elections are next month. Well, if the Republicans had something pretty good on a Democrat senator or congressman, damn right they would go hog wild with it.

This is like the democratic judge, I think he was family law or someting totally unrelated to what comes next, that pulled up "any" info on George Bush SIX months before the election, scored with the DUI, and waited a few days before the election to spring it.

The Democrats then had the balls to say that Bush stole the election because he won less votes nationally (probably because of the DUI being released a few days before) when according to the electoral college rules, he won it fair and square.

I am no lover of Bush and will be happy to see a replacement (I must admit however, that I want the replacement to be a Republican). I am just pointing out the reality of politics.

PS - This also does not change the fact that Foley is a sick fuck. If I may be cynical however, the Democrats should be supporting him since he is a sick homosexual fuck (this is a wisecrack, not an opinion).

Fair and square? I don't think so. The election rules in Florida were flawed. Anyhow it wasn't the first time the president-elect did not come first in the popular vote or end up with less than 50% of the votes cast.

Want a war? Vote Republican.

And a poor wisecrack at that.

Flawed? How? In whose opinion? The only system that guarantees that somebody with less then 50% of the vote does not win is a pure proportional representation system and you don't see many people advocating that. I am sure that every state has its flaws, but are you implying that the Florida result should have been overriden (by who, the army, Clinton, left-wing paramilitary group) to ensure a Gore victory. Would that have somehow been less flawed than a Bush victory.

The purpose of democracy is not to ensure a fair result. If you want fair, go live in a Kubbutz. The purpose of democracy is to ensure that power does not come from the barrel of a gun and that guns are not required to "kick the rascals out". This was one of Rome's fatal flaws.

2.
And Democrats don't go to war? Shall we start with Vietnam or do you want to go back further?

3.
In your opinion. The person(s) (or "perhaps" in your case, a sympathizer to that person(s)) who is the butt of the joke often does not appreciate the joke.

If you want to cut and run.... vote Democrat

If you want corrupt government and politicians who forget all of their promises once elected....then it does not matter who you vote for

From a war in Iraq that was started for no good reason by Bush and his Republicans and now has resulted in that country being in a civil war.

From a war in Afghanistan that is becoming a Vietnam for NATO forces, defending vile bastards from other vile bastards.

Supporting wars that don't make any sense: vote Republican.

Flawed that the proceedure to vote was a sham, hanging chads and all. That the protests organized by the Republicans were a sham. I find it amazing that the country that constantly boasts about democracy doesn't have a uniform set of election rules that are applied nation wide.

And that's too bad, democracy should be about fair results. Our system is a load of bullshit in itself with a party getting between 40-45% of the popular having at times well over 65% of the parliamentary seats.

Go back further, as to which government began sending in military advisors to South Vietnam: the Eisenhower administration. No doubt LBJ escalated the war into the huge mess and the defeat it became for the US. Interesting though that the guy heading up North Vietnam was once a US ally. Gees where have we seen this scenario in more recent times? Saddam Hussein, Manuel Noreiga (sp?), the Taliban, al Qaeda.

I found your reference to gays to be hardly funny. You should work on your gay jokes. Maybe sometime soon they will be funny.

David in Van - That is one of the strengths of the US, there are 50 different experiments going and while many are miserable failures, many are very successful.

And that's too bad, democracy should be about fair results. Our system is a load of bullshit in itself with a party getting between 40-45% of the popular having at times well over 65% of the parliamentary seats.

David in Van - So what are you proposing?

David in Van - True, but it really got escalated by Kennedy and Johnston. Interesting about the guy heading up North Vietnam being a US ally once - tell me more.

The joke is about Democrats, not gays. Lots of Republicans will think that is funny. It is irrelevant what a Democrat things. Personally I support gays. Minorities, particularly this one, deserve our protection (though not affirmative action, that is fixing one wrong with another wrong).
