you guys are being too sentimental regarding Armstrong...

great rider...

but Contador is better...

that's not being disrespectful...

Armstrong only became gracious when he resigned himself to the fact that he wasn't going to challenge Contador...

throughout the Tour he has done nothing but "grudgingly" admit Contador is a better rider...

Schleck has shown more class in my opinion...

my sense is Contador had a whole lot in reserve...

if we could fast-forward one year and pick favourites for 2010...

anybody who picks Armstrong over Contador is being mawkish...

I've come to expect that kind of garbage out of Roll...

but let's get real...

I agree, Contador is the best rider by a country mile; he is untouchable in the mountains AND out rode Cancellara [world\olympic TT champion] in the last time trial.
If he is on a good team, he'll be tdf winner for many years

TdF beats baseball anyday

WOW....that was a terrific TdF wasn't it? Can't wait for hunspergers reports on the upcoming World Cup of Cricket and the World Lawn Bowling Championships later this summer. Thank you hunsperger for bringing these fine events to life and giving them the coverage they deserve.
well, not sure about Cricket or Lawn Bowling but this years TdF was good.
the mountain stages truly separated the men from the boys.

and a shout out to hunsperger for starting the TdF thread.

damn Bluejays hogging the airwaves– thank god for the CFL!

Looks like AC is the one being a dick.

No question Contador is a great rider, but I don't think he realizes how good he's had it racing on Bruyneel teams. In the modern Tour you can't win without a team fully behind you and that only happens when your behaviour and attitude support your team. The greatest climber gets dropped if he has to ride tempo all the way to the mountain. Equal to LA's physical ability was his ability to choose, direct and keep the loyalty of a team.

Up north
The rider who impressed me the most was Andreas Kloden. That guy pulled most of the team around the various stages and still cleared a path for Armstrong on the last day. I thought Lance could have been a bit more gracious to Contador on the Ventoux stage as Contador stuck with him, nixed the Schleck attacks, and even pulled him up the final bit to the finish line. This was one of the most exciting TDF events in a long time! Kudos to Versus for the coverage, biased as it was.

I've always liked Kloden...

a consummate professional...

on at least two occasions this year he was sent back to drag Armstrong's whiney butt up the hill...

all things being equal, Contador, Kloden, and Leipheimer from Astana alone would beat Armstrong...

as for Contador, as you said, he shutdown all the Schleck brother attacks and perhaps allowed Armstrong to maintain his podium finish...

Armstrong's biggest problem right now is he thinks he's bigger than the sport...

Contador is in a league by himself...

he could have Hubba as one of his domestiques and he would still win...

not in Europe it ain't

and no one cares....it's a fringe sport at best. Now on to the World Cup of Cricket.
you're wrong on that statement.
there's definitely a strong support for the sport of cycling, maybe not in this board or in this part of the world, but travel to Europe and you may just be surprised how popular it is.
anyhoo, on to baseball… our much beloved game.
