Last night I'm watching a show on Euro 2012. One topic is on sex tourism in Ukraine. Since the fall of the USSR, Ukraine, like so many other former Soviet states has fallen on very hard times and sex tourism is huge. Anyway what shocked me is they made the statement that 1% of the adult population is HIV positive. I didn't catch whether they were talking about Kiev alone or Ukraine as a whole. I don't know what the rate is in Canada for example but if you think about 1 out of every 100 people having HIV that is a huge #. Throw in the fact that viruses like this tend to spread exponantially, the very poor state of health care in Ukraine, the fact that the sex industry is huge there and alot of girls admit to being so despirate they'll do BBFS for a few extra bucks and you've got the makings of a natural disaster.
BTW, I find this very sad. I spent a fair bit of time in Russia, Ukraine, Hungary and what is now Belarus, many years ago in a previous career. Wonderful, friendly generous people and gorgeous women. Just don't try and outdrink a Russian or Ukrainian girl. LOL!
