I just had to spoil myself and go lingerie shopping today. I discoverd this new place in the Cornwall Centre called La Vie en Rose—and what lingerie shop could be more appropriate for me?
I figured it was time to break out of the usual matching bra, garter belt and thong thing, well maybe not the thong thing. I like thongs, and I'm told I have a hot ass, so why not show it off, right?
This time I decided I'd match the thong with something special and, with fall coming, I was going for black lace. I eyed up the corsets, then going over to the rack with all the panties, bras, and garters belts, I grabbed something off the rack that looked like a thong in the same lace as the corset I liked, and took a closer look.
Inspecting the back, I noticed that it wasn't exactly a thong—though it narrowed sufficiently about halfway down the back, the top part was almost as wide as in the front. A thin black ribbon laced over a triangular portion in a crisscross pattern, tying up with a bow.
A clerk approached, apparently having seen the puzzled expression on my face, and offered assistance. "Is this a thong?" I asked.
"No," she said, "it's a Brazilian." Of course, this only puzzled me more, because I'd never heard of such an undergarnment. But a trip to the fitting room would prove very enlightening.
First of all, I never knew just how many styles of panties there were until I began receiving the Victoria's Secret catalogue on a regular basis. I have never purchased lingerie from the catalogue, however—only outer clothing, including a tight, stretch pencil skirt I wear to the office.
I don't like the idea of mail-ordering intimate apparel. And with Victoria's Secret, if it doesn't fit, it takes forever to do an exchange. They ship quickly enough, albeit at outrageous shipping charges. It's the sending it back that takes forever, especially if you send the exchange request with your returned merchandise. And if you phone in your exchange, the credit card charges from your returned goods are tied up while they're in transit (you send them to a Canadian address, but they turn around and send them to the United States and don't reimburse you for the charges on your credit card until the returned goods arrive at their final destination, which can take 4-6 weeks. So you can end up with a lot of funds tied up on your credit card for a long time).
One style of panty I can't stand the look of, because they strike me as totally unfeminine, is the boyshort. I know some people of both genders think these things are incredibly sexy, but frankly, I think they're tacky as hell and I won't even try one on. Victoria's Secret also has something called a hip hugger, which looks like a boyshort trying to be a little "cheekier". The Brazilian is much cheekier than a hip hugger.
Anyway, off I went to the fitting room with the corset and Brazilian. Everything fit, and I fell in love with this new style of panty. It shows off my cheeks beautifully, without the wedgie! Woo Hoo!!!
Unfortunately, the pair I bought to go with my corset were $24.00! A bit much for a pair of panties. I'm hoping these things will catch on in a big way locally so the price will come down and I can buy more of them some day. But there was a special, so I got the Brazilian free for buying the corset. Apparently, it was the best day to shop in that store.
Victoria's Secret hasn't really kept up, because they only have a couple of Brazilians in their catalogues so far, and I don't even like the look of them, let alone the colours. They're not quite as "cheeky" as the pair I bought.
So I wouldn't complain a bit if Brazilians caught on—I think they're the best of both worlds for both sexes. Men get to see what they want and women get the comfort that they want, while still looking and feeling ultra sexy and feminine.
Finally, a women's panty that makes everyone happy!
