I think this is one of the few bars in the city that has decently priced booze, a lively crowd every fri and sat night, shows ufc ppv's, the food is pretty crappy but the bar atmosphere is bar to none. What do you guys think of the place?

you get all kinds..hispanic, black, asian...a lot of cute white ladies hit up the joint a lot. They have beer there called Winchester that hits the spot for a decent price.

Never been....how are the ladies there?
Bit noisy, but fun..the ladies are friendly....just remember that most are probably young enough to be your grand kids....after all the place is attached to a hostel.

Yea, but there's guys and gals there of all ages that hit up the joint. It just matters on your attitude and you'll fit right in.

I used to go there occasionally maybe 20 years ago...was much better than the Ivanhoe...not nearly as scary as the Cobalt or American Hotels I used to frequent in my youth...(Maybe another 10/15 years before that)...It had a young, fun vibe back then as it sounds like it does now with the hostel attached...may drop in to see next time I am in Van...

BTW...Hunka...is that an Expos cap you are sporting in Uncleg's post??? Couldn't afford one with a logo???

@the Meat Market!!!lol
i LOVE the cambie!! been going there since 1990!! i guess that makes me gutter trash or and east van hood rat....hey, i reasemble that remark!!!credit where credit is due....

the beer is cheap, the pot plentiful and now with SFU's art department and the hairdressing school down the street, there are lots of young people.

i also like to hit the ivanho, an older crowd but super cool. the history of these hotels are amazing. the emporer of japan for instance stayed at the ivanho, back in the day...cold bottled beer on ice for $4.25 and usually a bottle special for $4.00, $4.25 a pint everyday.

the cobalt has got the domme crowd throwing some parties in it and the old american has reopened as the electric owl. they did alot of reno's in there.

another east end pub that has been made over is the london. it was the pacific but has been completely reno-ed. looks amazing. they sponser the rugby club i belong to, the vancouver rowing club.

anyway, just my 2 cents. i recommend an east van pub crawl to everyone. take a walk on the wild side, its really a beautiful neighbourhood and there are lots of cool old bars over there.

love susie

I've got heaps of love for the Cambie.

Very diversified crowd there, mostly quite cool.

o/d patio fills up quickly on nice days, ppl are ok with sharing tables.

dunno if they still have the beer&burger for about $6,thought it was a gd deal.

btw,the Winchester beer is actually Labatt's,according to a barman. at $3.75 it's a bargain.

This picture was taken after Hunka had been working out for 8 months ...2 hours a day and the government had just approved him for lifetime disability (mental that is)!

Funny story. When I was growing my feet were the same size as my age
Interesting. This reminded me of the mathematician William Rowan Hamilton. The number of languages he spoke was the same as his age. When he was 13 years old, he could speak 13 different languages.
