Telus vs Shaw

I've been using Shaw for a few years now, mostly because Telus couldn't supply ADSL here in Surrey when I first went high speed.

Shaw's charging $13 more per month than Telus and I'm thinking of switching. I'll have to change my e-mail address and a few other things.

Aside from the service part of Telus, is Telus a better ISP than Shaw?

Thanks,
Fotura

You may also want to consider how much you download. Shaw monitors the amount you download but Telus does not. Shaw has called me before telling me that I have exceeded my download limit for the month. I ask them what the limit is. The knob on the phone tells me there is no 'real set limit', however I am above it. I tell him that if they have a problem with me exceeding a limit that does not exist that they should just say the word and would be more than happy to switch to their competitor. Haven't had a call since.

However I have also heard that the new modems that Shaw gives out does not allow them to track the amount downloaded per customer. Although, I do not know this foresure.

I have had both Telus and Shaw and I don't think that there is much difference, except for the above.

telus does have a promotional bundle where they quote rates lower for one year and then raise them when it ends.

telus went through some glitches in specific service areas and when i moved they were not present in this area.

either one is over-priced and under-serviced so try negotiating some rate reductions or packages.

be wary of shaw-lite as an adsl comparison though ...

Thanks for the advice. A Telus wire exhange is a couple of blocks from my house so I don't expect any problems there.

I checked Telus' site and the price is their regular one, not a promo so I'm still good.

As far as downloads go, I haven't had problem with Shaw. I do a lot of work from home and I download huge files, in excess of 20 gigs per month and have not had a problem with Shaw. I'm already subscribed to Shaw's Entertainment package which includes the Internet.

I'm only switching looking at switching because of the price difference. I'm wondering if Shaw will match Telus' price if I ask them. At 42.95 per month for the Internet, that's almost 1/2 my Shaw bill.

I got a warning from Shaw for exceeding 20 GB per month. They said there is "no real set limit" in their user agreement, but the general rule of thumb is 20 GB.

How do you know how close is the Telus wire exchange to your residience? Is there a website where we can look this up? TIA

Unless your on SHAW extreme I can't see any difference in staying or moving to Telus from a speed point of view, unless SHAW has pissed you off or something, and the money savings. But if you save 13 bux/mo dump SHAW on their ass or call em up and tell the stupid fukks to hack some coin off the bill.

I have a friend on Telus who when her first got it claimed he had to release and renew his IP a lot to make the fukkin thing work. I haven't asked him if he's still gotta do that.

I swithed to telus and had plenty of problems so I got to talk to a customer
service agent in the Maratimes who couldn't care less.
I switched back real fast to shaw.

If you have Shaw for your TV cable, I think you can get Shaw Lite Speed for only $17 a month. I have been trying to tell Telus, which I use, that I may switch unless they can match the offer but they have "customer proofed" themselves by only having automated emails (ie no one reads them). I may just have to call a real person there.

Shaw is the best. But you need to be a cable TV user because you'll be surfing on Channel 1.

Shaw Lite Speed is not worth it for $17 to $25 per month.
Only 15K per second. That's 5 time faster then dialup.

Shaw high speed is $37.95 (you can own your modem by buying it for $30) and $5 more if you need to rent the modem. 200K per second. They don't like it if you DL more than 20 gigs per month.
They'll call you and claims they have to close your account if you keep doing that!

Shaw high speed Xtreme is $47.95 per month ($30 to buy the modem). 550K per second (that's 4.4 million bits). But since Window puts a cap at 300K, you need to go into Window's registery and change this number higher. They might call also if you go over 50 gig per month.
