Hardatwork

The team has been announced today. I'm thinking that there's going to be some friendly arguments over the selected and non selected players.

The players...

Goal

Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo, Marty Turco

Defence

Rob Blake, Adam Foote, Ed Jovanovski, Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Wade Redden, Robin Regehr.

Forward

Simon Gagne, Jarome Iginla, Joe Sakic, Ryan Smyth, Todd Bertuzzi, Shane Doan, Kris Draper, Dany Heatley, Vincent Lecavalier, Brad Richards, Rick Nash, Martin St. Louis and Joe Thornton.

Reserve Players

Eric Staal, Jason Spezza and Bryan McCabe

Let the arguments begin... :D

OK...I'll start
What kind of a statement are we making to the world that we add a thug and leave off a (admittedly rookie) talent like Crosby.

If we win gold I'd sure hate to see it 'tainted' by any contribution that Bertuzzi may make.

Ahh, surprised you didn't talk about Mr Heatley's past.

Bertuzzi was in a hockey fight. Yes, it was one sided, not unlike many other hockey fights over the years. He was convicted in two courts, BC and NHL. He served two different sentences. Given the financial cost of his penalties, he paid a far higher price than your average thug on the street. Like tens of thousands of others, he has "served his time", and deserves to get on with his life.

Here's what really counts:
He is/can be a game breaker.
He'll be wearing our colours.
Go Canada.

I thought about it but I can look at that as a Very stupid, very tragic mistake as opposed to a cold, calculated chicken-shit attack from behind.

No one likes winning more than I do but if doesn't mean a thing if you can't stand on the podium with pride. Personally, today, I feel embarrassed. But...We are entitled to our opinions.

BTW...Anyone who agrees or disagrees, please state your opinion NOT as a Canuck fan but rather as a Canadian cuz this is afterall our Canadian National Team

Actually, many of us regard a drunk driving caused death as murder.

Bert's a very good hockey player.

Heatley's a very good hockey player.

Go Canada Go.

They've both done their time.

Peace. Out.

Go Canada Go.

WJHC first, we're in tough for a medal. Crosby would help, that's the tournament that he should be in. But he has a well documented record of no-showing in Vancouver, and needs to keep the fans showing up so that his landlord can pay the bills.

Then bring on the Olympics. Both teams in the main event will do us proud.

Then the Paralympics. Go Sledgesters Go.

whats more surprising is where is Staal? He is only the one of the best in the nhl right now and I thought the selection was based on the performance right now. Yeah Bert. is a good player but has not played that well till of late. Either way you look at it they still have a very strong team and hopefully bring back another GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!! GO CANADA GO

Bertuzzi shouldn't be on the team because he hasn't played well enough year to date. The rest of the shit in the past is irrelevant.

I have a hard time understanding how Foote is on this team and not McCabe (no I am not a Leaf fan). Sure they need some experienced veterans without Yzerman or Lemeuix but Adam Foote??? They guy is done. He has a horendous +/-, a poor shot, can't run a PP anymore and is slower than half the guys in my beer league. Sure he is tough but this is international rules with international refs. What this team needs is speed and skill on defence. I know his detractors say that McCabe shouldn't be on the team just because of 1 good season but sports is all about what have you done lately, not what did you do 3 or 4 years ago.

Can we put the Bertuzzi thing to rest!I don't agree with what he did to Steve Moore. However, according to hockey news magazine and around the league Moore was getting to be known as a dirty player, cheap shot artist!Even Tampa Bay Lightning coach John Torterella witnessed one of his star players(Vinny Lecalvier) get a real good crosschecking from Moore.Well, one has to be accountable for their actions.I'm not saying what happened to Steve was right. The night of the mugging he was yapping at the Canuck bench all night as well.Karma man. What goes around comes around. You do bad shit sooner or later it is going to catch up to you!If Bert hadn't of done it,another player would have.Bert did the crime and the time so put the Moore thing to rest!Bert deserved to be on the team and so does Jovo.Look at the flying elbow and concussion he gave nazzy a couple of weeks earlier.Don't try and tell me that wasn't a cheap shot?At least Nazzy had enough class to not bitch about it.It only came out later that he pretty well played the rest of the year with post-concussion syndrome!

Easy. Foote's a winner and McCabe's a loser. McCabe's plays half the game, is a minus hockey player, and 65% of his points come from the power play. Give any coach or G.M. in the NHL a choice between the two, if they want to win the Cup this year, Foote's the no-brainer. Well, except if you're Mike Milbury. Foote just happens to play on a shitty team, young but shitty, who have missed by far their best player for most of the year.

Jovo shoudln't be on the team either. With all of the vets (Blake, Pronger, Niedermayer, Foote) it's about time they integrated Phaneuf into the lineup. He's one of the top D-men in the league already and isn't nearly the liability of a Jovo.

Draper. Why
Name a championship team that didn't have role players. A fourth line of Draper, Smyth, and Doan looks pretty good to me.

Bert?

The Liizard is right Bert is not playing well enough to be named but thats it.
Time served so let him be
As Canadian's we well understand compassion and we should show some to a person who admitted guilt and paid his dues.

BS Detec: On Heatley "can look at that as a Very stupid, very tragic mistake"

"many of us regard a drunk driving caused death as murder." (James)

"You're lookin at one of em"

Murder is never a mistake so why cut a murderer slack and not a person convicted of assault and sentence served??

Cheechoo should be there he is playing fantastic.

Blake is an old man who gets blown by on a regular basis these days.

Guess I have mixed feelings about Heatley. Yes, in a sense it is murder but not intentional. Like I said, a very stupid and tragic mistake. I guess I see the two differently but make no mistake. I do not see Heatley and not remember what he did. Had more of a long term effect in fact than what Bertuzzi did.

Dany Heatley wasn't drunk when that accident happened, it was a case of reckless driving. It was stupid and unfortunate but he never would have got off with what he did if he was drunk.
