I used;" Bona-X/semi-gloss/water-based/flooring finish" on my former Douglas fir finished home.
Floors,stairwell,wainscoting and patio fence pickets.
A clear finish does not compromise the natural beauty of Douglas fir,but rather lets the wood get more beautiful with age.
Cherish the natural bright-work,rather than cheapen it,with some bogus artificial-yellow generic stain.

Danish oil, then Lee Valley Conservators wax.
When I refinish an old piece I'll strip, light sand, Natural Danish oil, then wax it to fill the micro voids left by the refinishing.
I will never use the dark walnut colour unless I want the Oak to not appear so blonde....Canadian oak isn't as dark as European species.
Unfortunately the old recipe Danish was far better, but it was changed to meet environmental standards.
On some pieces I will finish with clear Minwax finishing paste wax...heavy....buff with a piece of clean old denim, hit it with a heat gun, set on low, and kept moving so not to brand the wood....then while it's still warm, I'll rub on a coat of lemon oil to level the wax ,using my bare hands.

Cloverdale paint has some excellent stain and Clearcoat. I spent a lot of hours sanding and prepping, two coats of stain and two coats of clearcoat and this solid wood slab table and benches looks brand new!

It all depends. 80W ... you didnt specify what kind of wood and what use. Floors, walls, ceilings, roofs, furniture, indoors or outdoors. Is it oak, cherry, mahogany or pine. Do you want high gloss or lustre.

Table tops Hi gloss = cellofinish.. no contest. I learned this one in highschool back in the 60s. lately I have just been varnishing (minwax) Gloss, wetsanding then many coats of Maguirs Gold paste wax.

And yes Cloverdale (local company) make a great product.

Yes I thought someone wood metioned that.... I just can't fiqure out how someone would protect their woody with a stain....:focus:

Now for the hard part, are any of the above methods bad for health (ie the stain is toxic or not), safety precautions, gloves, mask (half or full) canisters... etc

Its a good thing I don't have a Vancouver Canucks towel (knot lint free). I might have to throw it in the ring....
