Is public transit efficient in Victoria? Can it be improved with the growing outlying areas? Like Westshore and Sooke and up Island over the Malahat.

I mainly ask due to the increase in bike lanes in Victoria (which I think is a stupid waste of tax money to put them in.), lack of parkcades for cars.

Over the years I heard they should put a train (electric or diesel) on the Galloping Goose trail (or could be like the skytrain) for people living up Island.

What about transit to hiking sites, parks, events or tourist attractions? ie. Burchart Gardens, Butteryfly Gardens, Esquimalt Lagoon. Any every bodies favourite dogging site.

I'm in a rural district on the peninsula and most people using the bus seem to walk to the Pat Bay Hwy to get an express at peak travel, sometimes 2 km or so. The local bus is every 2 hours to connect to so I would say not great service. As for the Western Communities they say they are going to make bus lanes or HOV lanes to account for the growth. There just seems to be no political will to spend big bucks on light rail service on the old E & N corridor, I just don't think that's ever going to happen.

Yes, but most people are aware that it could be.
What has to happen is to get rid of the 15,000 mayors in the Greater Victoria and Capital Regional District, get 2 councilors from each place, elect 1 major. Each town/place will have to okay extensions to routes for car and and rapid transit areas/routes before the change over to 1 mayor. Or you could just start shooting the mayors over and over again, so that people get the idea that a mayor of each of those towns/places is not required... Yeah bad idea...

In the next 20 years new mayors will be elected; that will start building big apartment buildings in their towns (rezoning of the land), cause the money to be made is too good to pass up. Look at Langford, big box stores moved in 20 years ago and that kick-started Langford development. Sewer lines brought in etc.

Today's key words are downsize. Yard work sucks. Kids will move out and get their own lives. Older people will move into condos and go travelling.

So what happens to those house in those communities, they'll turn into apartment building land. People can't afford those 800,000 dollar houses (well they can with illegal suits to help pay for mortgage- hey and don't claim that income) its happening out out there, all you have to see is the places with 4 cars and no parking places because the houses weren't designed to park 4 cars. Overflow parking. People park their big diesel work truck on the cul-de-sac when they are not supposed to etc.

Downtown Victoria has invested in bike lanes and no more parkcades. The events that happen on the legislature lawn, people are asked to use buses. Parking is atrocious when these events happen. People from the Western Communities don't go downtown as much anymore because of the traffic congestion. the transit system sucks. And it costs up to 3.00/hr to park a car.

In the past 30 years ICBC was giving communities money to single lane road to stop the incessant swerving in and out of traffic, to stop fatalities. The result the slowing of traffic in many communities. Some of these communities liked it because they thought the traffic won't come into their community as much. This caused congestion in other main thoroughfares in Victoria. They are now putting in an overpass at #1 and MacKenzie - which should of been done 20 years ago. Next should be Tillicum Rd. but the kicker is that the entering Goldstream Park it goes down to 1 lane. Creating backlog on over the Malahat, when this road should be 4 laned, if not 6 lanes.
