I briefly heard about this on the news last night and when I got home from work today, I read the AP story. And before anyone yaps that there's "no such thing as a tame wild animal", yes I understand that a wild animal is truly never tame. But going to the subterfuge Troy Gentry apparently went to in order to pass of his "kill" as being that of an animal he hunted in the wild with his bow and arrow indicates he knew damn well he wasn't in any danger from the animal and that he was basically just killing a creature for whatever thrill it is that hunters get from killing things.

I think that instead of being sent to prison (though the idea of him being Bubba's bitch for a few years is quite appealing), he should be set loose in an area that's got lots of kodiak bears or black bears or polar bears armed with nothing more than a Bowie knife. I'd like to see how well the brave Mr. Gentry fares in that situation.

If he shot a tame bear in a pen on his own property the sensible punishment would be to stick him in a pen with another bear. This is as bad as the stupid assholes killing bears in Manitoba for their gall bladders and paws.

I'll pony up the $4,650 to get Gentry inside a mobile home and go after him with a bow & arrow and see how he likes it. Once I bagged my prey I'll have his head stuffed so I can mount it above the fireplace to remind me how fucking ignorant people can be.
