I sold my house. I've decided to rent for six months. Not much out there for sale in my price range that interests me. Had a house lined up, but last Monday, they decided to rent to someone else. So now its the weekend and I have to be out of my house Monday. With no house to move into. I think the main problem is the six months lease. Most want a year. The minor problem is I have a big dog (German Shepherd).

I didn't realize how competitive the rental market is in the Fraser Valley. Most property managers have an open house and you fill out an app. They then chose the right applicant. Me only requiring six months, so far all apps have failed. Looks like I'll be in a hotel Monday, until I find a place. Might have to commit to a year lease, make myself more appealing.

The fun part is moving sucks!!!!!!!

I'm contemplating travelling down the same path i.e. selling and then renting short term while pondering the next phase of my life. In retrospect so you think it might have been better to find a place first and then sell the house? I agree with your last comment that whatever happens moving definitely sucks
Good Luck!

Yes, it would have been better to find a place first. The rental market is very competitive, prices are high too for rent.

Well today is going to be a major screw up. Rented a truck. Was supposed to be until Monday. Now they are saying its a 6hr rental. At least I drive a pick up, so can load the small stuff in that.

Nothing wrong with signing a year lease and subletting when you're ready.
Didn't think of that.

Still dealing with rental truck issue. They don't open until 8:30 at the pick up location. The 1-800 number was useless. If my dog travelled better. Id keep my stuff in storage and head south until spring.

Try to get a suite when you move into the hotel. The kitchen will save you a lot of hassle. Also, try Air BnB. I lived for a year in hotels before I found a suitable apartment in Victoria. Good luck, I know its harder with a pet.

Oh, I'm looking at rents in the ranges of $2,800 to $3,000 per month. If I upped the budget a few hundred it gets less competitive, but they still want a years lease. I might up the budget and commit to a years lease. It should solve my house problem.

This would be ideal: https://abbotsford.craigslist.org/apa/d/abbotsford-stunning-view-house-4/7023922211.html
I rent out a place similar for Airbnb style rental as long term can be a enormous headache with the wrong tenant. I think a lot of people try to deal with the same fears I have by going the opposite direction. I would suggest offering upfront payment for a six month lease, the upfront payment for the lease term takes out a lot of fear for landlords. That’s what use to work for me as a renter and what I feel would set me at ease as a landlord. Either way bringing it up can’t damage the situation.

Yeah and then you sublet to someone who will trash the place, won't pay the rent then squat and not leave when the lease is done. You will then be sued by the owner, they will take you to court and the judge will make a judgment against you and award them your new home as compensation.

You will then find yourself homeless and on the streets.

I think you should book a hotel room and get busy looking for a home to purchase.

Went through something like this back in 2006. Decided to sell my condo but met resistance for not having references. One was appaled to think that I'd simultaniously own a home and rent at the same time to make sure that I got a place to my liking. Finally found a realtor with a basement suite in her own home in a pleasant neighbourhood that I ended up renting nearly 8 years in exchange for the business of selling my condo.

Had a bad day. My dog was very people aggressive. Not good being a 100lb German Shepherd. He was fine here because I don't get visitors and live rural. Decided it was safer to put him to sleep. I'm very sad, it was a tough decision. He was muzzled and tried attacking the vet. He wouldn't have worked in a hotel situation.

The only bright spot it opens up more possibilities. I have enough air miles to go to Cuba for free. Rent a house there is better then here.

WTF! I can't fucking believe this! You put your dog down for your stupidity! You don't deserve a dog! Or a place to live!

I strongly hope this is some kind of sick trolling method... If not there are about 100 things about this that are positively sick, such as why was your dog people aggressive in the first place, second you didn’t even try to find him a better home? Lots of people are willing to work with and rehabilitate aggressive dogs, all but one of my dogs came to me that way. Please never own an animal again.

Fyi of course he tried to attacked the vet, he was essentially tied up being poked at.
