I saw this new Durex Avanti Ultima condom. Its a non-latex condom (synthetic polyisoprene polymer) and it costs a lot more than a latex one. Claiming better sensation and heat transfer.
I am just wondering how much protection it actually provides again STD if used correctly and consistently? Anyone know?
Hi Shak
Sorry about the late reply.
In Canada, condoms are considered medical devices and are therefore regulated by Health Canada. This means that the product must be tested for its effectiveness against disease and sperm. Any condom that is licenced for sale in Canada meets this standard.
I have been in touch with Durex and they have stated that “Durex has recently launched an Avanti polyisoprene condom in some markets but that condom is not available for sale at this time in the US or Canada.”
The lady said that they are going through the licensing procedure at the moment and hope to have it approved for Canada and the USA in the next 6 months. Apparently it is approved for sale in Europe.
If it goes on sale in Canada this would mean that it has passed the standards test and would provide good protection against sexually transmitted infections if used correctly and consistently.
