Nepotism in the workplace

I am getting sick of nepotism. The company I work for could literally be called "Nepotism Ltd." it is so bad here. All you need is the right dad, or brother, and you can get away with murder and be treated great (and some get paid substantially more than someone else with the same experience for the same job). If you aren't connected or drinking buddies with the right people, you get treated like garbage. I have thought of switching careers or getting more education, but I'm not sure I can take the big pay cut or outright absence of income. Anyone else sick of nepotism and favoritism in the workplace?

This obviously would be worse in the private sector, but I have a friend who works in the public sector and it seems to be all about sucking dick and being a puppet/yes man if you ever want to get anywhere.

Some good advice there.

Interesting (poor?) choice of words at the end imo, but anyway...

Nepotism happens in many different ways, but it is a fact of life in our culture. It is more often who you know, not what you know, that enabled you to succeed in life. There are ways around it, mostly hard, hard, long work. Or getting lucky. There are also job environments where coworkers dont know much or care about each other.

Even an interview process. Half of it is to decide if the person is a good fit for the job description, but both parties should really be asking themselves "do we want to work together every day for the forseeable future".

Best option: find a place where you enjoy working and the people you work with. Life will seem so much more livable.
