I don't get that sculpture? How the hell does a mom give birth in that position? Shouldn't the sculpture depict her on her back straining to push?

Actually, birth can be achieved in any number a positions. The oldest and most common method is squatting, which is still used today in Third World countries. Look at it this way; any method similar to a position used to pass stools works. The pushing mechanism is the same. True, lying down is probably not the best, but if a woman feels comfortable in this position, then by all means.
