Over the years, I've come up with some preferences, and here they are:
1. I prefer to be served by a pleasant and nice looking female (hot is a bonus, but not necessary) when in a family to midrange restaurant.
Examples of family restaurants - Swiss Chalet, Knight and Day, ABC Country restaurant, Ricky's, Hooters
, etc.
Examples of midrange restaurants - Earls, The Keg, The Boathouse, Milestones (barely in the same league as the first 3), etc.
2. I prefer to be served by a well groomed and older gentleman who is "seasoned vet" when at a more upscale restaurant. Sometimes a middle age waitor can also work, but no young snooty guys.
Eg. Gothams, The Brock House, The Fish House, most upscale hotel restaurants, etc.
I find that when in a more relaxed atmosphere, I prefer the hospitality, smile, and "fun-ness" of a bubbly female bringing my food and drinks. It doesn't hurt if she's wearing a skirt and heels either (pantyhose or stockings being a huge bonus). I cannot stand having a male, especially a scrawny geeky type, serving my food. I always specifically request a female server when engaging in a dining experience at low to mid grade restaurants. When entering a new restaurant, if the server I'm assigned does not meet my stringent requirements, I will then "scout" for new talent. I will observe personality, attentiveness, and hotness (basically L, A, S just like an SP) and ask the manager for the name of the lady for future reference. I will then try her next time... if she meets my criteria, I usually make a note of her and request her every time. If she does not work a certain day, I usually try to have a backup server just in case... so basically, I always have a short list of 2 for each restaurant.
When in a more serious setting, I find many females are not as professional as the older gents who know the small idiosynchrasies of being a top level waitor and what it entails. I find that the service at top end restaurants is almost always top notch, and therefore I do not have to keep a short list of who to request... and 80-90% of the time it's a man anyways.
So, just curious how everybody else on PERB feels about the server issue...
