Yeah, I know, fuck this covid shit but ... it is doing exactly what a proper self respecting virus should do and that is find hosts, mutate and keep finding hosts.
More variants are now picking up momentum, all from omicron and these are getting better at bypassing immunity. The RAT tests still work, so it might be a good idea to pick up a pack or two when you are next in your local pharmacy and if your paranoia level is high enough, mask up ... again.
More than likely you all have had a covid episode, maybe more than one and the only good thing is if it was mild it was like an annoying couple days of feeling a bit crappy.
Anyway, the latest stuff I am seeing in my inbox is that we could see a pretty big bump this fall/winter.
Just a big basket of good news eh!

Apparently not in Alberta where the new ultra right wing UCP leader is promoting canceling ALL Vaccine Mandates.

These new XBB variants have apparently mutated so that antibodies from previous COVID infections don't recognize them. It is also possible it's going to evade the current crop of vaccines. If the numbers spike again and hospital space is threatened, there will be additional restrictions imposed, unless they just decide to let people who get it die. That would be an interesting move to make, close ICU beds to all COVID patients, if you die, too bad. There are US states that might do that. Alberta maybe too.

I think most people are fed up with Covid restrictions (masking, gathering limits, physical distancing, proof of vaccination, travel apps, etc).

If governments try to impose restrictions again, I think there will be a huge backlash and many people will simply say fuck you.

Do governments have the stomach to charge, fine and imprison thousands of people who refuse to comply?

I think the newer variants are so transmissable that public health measures are futile. There is no way to escape the virus.
Vaccines are the only thing you can do because you and I will all get it eventually.

Never say never but I can’t see any big measures like ArriveCAN or vax passports coming back. Maybe recommending masks or limiting home gathering sizes but again will only be suggestions I think. Can’t help but remember hearing the same headlines about omicron being more contagious and immune evasive and then always something about mild disease for the vaccinated. I’m not worried about restrictions or disease for myself or just about everyone I know due to vax uptake.

We live in a reactive society now. Many physicians are accusing governments world wide of culling the herd where it's survival of the fittest. One can argue we're regressing to darker times. Perhaps we should ask Elon Musk for his opinion? It seems many people value it.

I agree, I don't see measures coming back. Other than continuing to encourage people to keep their vacces up to date. It is irrefutable that for most fully vaccinated people Omicron produces mild symptoms so people know what they should do. Perhaps vaccine passports could return which would be fine with me. I have had four jabs including the bivalent. But don't see masking, distancing, etc coming back other than as a "recommendation"

Not sure which variant I caught a while back, but it was not a fun experience. Technically I guess I am no longer infected as have been testing negative for a lonngggg time now. Still suffering horribly. Crippling headaches reappear many times a day/night. Nothing seems to help.
Wouldn't wish these upon anyone.
Fully vaccinated, healthy and try to do the correct things. Have a very good idea where I caught it, but that doesn't help after the fact. One brief period where I wasn't wearing a mask.

Was at a mini-convention last week. Mostly older white guys, fairly cautious bunch. Out of approximately 100 people there, over 3 days, 25 of them caught Covid. Only a few of us were wearing masks.

There is a fair bit of talk about bringing back indoor mask requirements. Stats are showing significant increases. I guess the good is that vast majority are not getting really sick, but the few that are, are getting hammered. Many folks opting to stop at 2 shots or 3 and not getting the bivalent vaccine. Statistical significance that that is allowing more hosts. Meanwhile, life goes on ...

In keeping with the More Variants theme, the latest iteration called the Kraken (I guess it's "unleash the Kraken" time) is more sticky than prior mutations. More spikes, more barb like it you want to use that as an analogy and it appears to find receptor cells more easily than prior mutations.

For any who think multiple vaccinations are not helping one avoid getting Covid, good luck out there. At a minimum the bivalent booster helps. Just putting that out there but we all know that those who refuse to get vaccinated and believe there are microchips in the vaccines put there by Bill Gates who I guess wants to control all of humanity, just will not accept science.

No more shots for me stopped at two. My wife has 4 shots and got sick again for ten days. As a nurse she washes hands wears gloves and always has a mask on. Third time with Covid I got it once maybe I have better immune system or just lucky. I don’t think Covid is going anywhere we just have to live with it eat healthy and wash hands. Good luck

I do worry that that we're about to have a repeat of 2019 with China doing a complete 180 and eliminating all travel restrictions. I don't really think mandatory screening would really change anything.
